i have an abit kt7e mobo and am getting an ibm 40gb ata100 HDD. Will the cable i already got with my kt7e (same as u get with the kt7a) FULLY support ata100? if not, will the drive come with one? ...i shouldnt imagine that IDE cables vary with different ATA speeds...or do they? ..........and another thing.....the kt7e does actually have an ata100 controller, right?

If you buy the drive in OEM packaging (just a antistatic bag) your not gonna get anything but the drive. If your old cable has 80 wires..it will work as a ATA66 or ATA100. ATA33 drives used the old 40 wire ide cables.

aha!! that explains why it says when booting up "no 80-pin cable connected in secondary ide" ....my secondary ide cable must be ata 33 maximum (40-pin?) ....my DVD drive is ata66 so for it to run at ata66 id need to get a new 80pin ide cable...hhmm..that doesnt bother me yet though...dvds run fine......so back to the original thread question...cool, my cable will be ok.....thats a relief.....cheers.

its not the pins but the number of wires inside.they still have 40 pin connectors but have a ground wire next to each pin wire to eliminate crosstalk.the two original connectors you got with the board should be used in ide 1 and2 (they have blue connectors that plug into mb)

i only got 1 ide cable and one floppy cable with my kt7e...so im gonna have to buy another 80pin/wire ide cable
