Has anyone figured out if it's possible to merge these two bars in the photo and gain a little more viewing area?

I don't think it is possible.

After using IE7 for a few weeks, I turned off the "Toolbar", and replaced it with the cool "Links" tab. Once you get used to IE7's menu bar, you can get by w/o the old-school "Toolbar" IMO. Most everything I use the old Toolbar for is in IE7's "Tools" menu...

But yes - it is annoying

Although like Randyman suggested, the toolbars in IE7 can't be dragged to a different position even when the toolbars are unlocked... I've found a tweak which moves the Menu Bar back to the top (instead of the default placement between the Navigation Bar and the Tabs) as in previous versions of the browser. The registry needs to be edited though, and a new DWORD created under the following key...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Internet Explorer | Toolbar | WebBrowser

Highlight the WebBrowser key, and in the RH pane select New--> DWORD Value | Name the new DWORD ITBar7Position | Right click the new Value name and select Modify | In the Edit DWORD Value dialog that opens, change the 0 in the Value data field to 1. Refresh the registry by hitting F5, and then restart IE.

How is IE7 standing up? I'm not letting Automatic Update install it just yet...I'm afraid of bad things even though I only use FF.

Well - I guess you have no reason to update then. :p IE7 is doing fine on PC#1 in my Sig... I love the Tabs and better looking graphics. It will get Slipstreamed onto my SP2b CD for my next fresh install

Thanks redduc900, sure hit the spot on that entry. I was wanting to get things to a familar layout.

I found the best solution is to just turn off the Menu Bar and turn it on if needed, I rarely use the Menu Bar so it works out well, I dont like to large a top toolbar :santa:

Ziggy,

IE7 is just fine here, not a single problem. I felt as you did and checked with a few others about it before the upgrade. A few minor cosmetic changes, most are internal and unseen.

I've gotten to used to it far quicker than I expected and I think the tabs feature is great. I have had not 1 single crash or lock-up yet it's worth the upgrade from IE6.

Angelfire,

I agree with you. No problems and it seems to be rock solid. Old ways and appearances die hard. I'll get used to the minor front page cosmetic changes too.

I did the same thing. But yeah, I could do without a few things on the address bar :::cough::: live search :::cough::: But at least you can change the provider if you wish.
