Ok buddy of mine came to me for some recommendations on a new gaming rig. His budget is 16-1700ish. He is dead set on the GTX1080 and a i7 so they are staples. Here is what I can up with so far but am still playing with things. The motherboard here I think might be overkill since he will NOT be overclocking. He games for hours on ends which is why I added the cosair liquid cooler.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0, 08G-P4-6286-KR, 8GB GDDR5X, RGB LED, 10CM FAN, 10 Power Phases, Double BIOS, . $609.99

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 ... $106.99

GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel ... $159.99

Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530 $339.99

Windows 10 Home - 64-bit - OEM $109.99

Crucial MX300 2.5" 1TB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT1050MX300SSD1 $269.99

* Corsair Carbide Series 200R Black Steel / Plastic Compact ATX Mid Tower Case $58.99 Save: 15.72%

* CORSAIR CW-9060010-WW Hydro Series H55 Quiet CPU Cooler Sold by* IPC Store* $81.04

Total around $1,728.00

Asrock z270 Extreme4, and Kabylake 7700k.

H55 is a waste of money: high end air coolers cool better.

PSU? EVGA 550W will do.

You could grab a bit faster DDR4 (3200/cl14) in the same price range.

Forgot the PSU :D lol
That MB is the same price as what I have listed.

Yes, but it is a z270 chipset, new tech, for Kabylake. 7700K is $10 to $20 cheaper than the 6700K, with higher stock clock speed and better overclocking headroom. Well, and Asrock manufactures very solid boards ;)

He will not be overclocking at all. So I am just looking for a solid board that we can run at default speeds. Appreciate the info.

And possibly with a deal on the CPU/Mobo Combo (like -$30 on the mobo)

Then the video card is $40 more at Microcenter. Maybe I just order that from Newegg. They have it on sale. Time to build another list with MC and check out the prices. How come things like this become so time consuming haha. Again thanks for the info.

Build HERE. $1500.00 bucks.

There is no point in a K processor or a Z series mobo if there is no chance of overclocking.

The intel heatsink will work just fine and comes with the 7700.

Buy your windows key at kinquin 30 bucks with the buyers protection.

The K version is quite faster out of the box than the non "k" (4.2GHz vs 3.6GHz), that's almost 20% and well worth the 10 bucks IMO. Semi agreed on the chipset and HSF though, as I would not kill the option of overclocking in the future for an extra $40, which is not even 3% of the total build value. ;)
