Hey, It's me again. No, that other "me." ;)

It's high-gear time for upgrading and I'm narrowing down my options. I would like a few opinions on motherboards.

I'm eyeing the Asus A7M266 right now. I've always been very satisfied with Asus quality and performance, and from what I can tell, the AMD chipsets are more stable than the Via or others.

Another option I'm considering is the Abit KG7, if it is available without RAID. I don't plan on using it, and don't really want to pay for it.

I plan on snagging a AYHJA if I can, and slapping on a Millennium copper heatsink. This machine will be for gaming and I hope to score a good GF3 in the next month or so for "cheap," and I don't plan on wildly overclocking this.

I will be overclocking it, but not by much. Mainly, I don't want to stress the other components, and right now, a 1.3GHz AMD is fast enough for pretty much anything out there.

Future Concerns:

What about the nForce? It seems nice, but ther'es the nForce Nirvana. What I want to know is; does it seem that there is enough promise in this chipset that it's worth waiting to see how it does? Or should I go with something solid now?

Also, the Palomino. I don't know much about this, but I take it that it's the next AMD CPU, not just another Athlon. Or am I confused?

THankyou for your help, and I promise to hang around here more. ;)

From what I understand, I admit to not following it much, the Palomino is the next generation of Athlon. It has a slightly smaller die and runs faster, but is still basically a powerful upgraded Athlon.
My thoughts on up and coming hardware is that there will always be something on the horizon that you could wait for. If you do wait for it then you are inclined to buy it as soon as you can. If you do that then you are the guinea pig. Some times you get lucky, most of the time you get stuck with the buggy, does not live up to promises, first revision. I say get something that is "current" that you can read real *reviews* not *previews * of and talk to people that have the same thing.

I just realized after posting just how many threads there are that are similar to mine.. heh.. so, I'll just keep reading and listening, and save my questions for other things.

i.e. To shim or not to shim?
