because the box clearly says, in big letters, that it's a dual ata-100 board. But after I opened it up and read the manual, I find that it's only ata-33 or 66. To get ata-100 you need to buy the raid board. That, plus the fact that the temp sensor in the socket doesn't actually contact the housing of the cpu, (I thought I might be able to bend it to make contact but it's too short), is enugh to make me return the thing. Fortunately I didn't buy from googlegear. I went to Fry's, and they have a good return policy.

So now I'm thinking Abit, but this time I think I'll downlad the manual first so there won't be any surprises. Maye I want a ddr board, too.

KK266 is a dual ATA 100 board. I'm running Ultra100 right now. KK266 RAID is a RAID board. Which do you have? If you have the non-raid board you will need a RAID card, if not , you won't.

I agree with Daniel, my 2 Quantums are running Mode 5 Ultra DMA on a KK266. I do believe Mode 5 IS ATA-100.

Go to their website! Don't trust the manuals that come with mobos. I haven't seen one proper manual. Even my intel 815 mobo from Intel's sucked when it came to the manual, even if it was the best manual I've seen so far.

I just got the same mobo last week and also noticed this in the manual. After looking around I found this, it is from the huge kk266 FAQ at fullon3d.com and I think will answer this question.

"Some boards- maybe around 100 or so- that were destined for OEM makers, somehow made their way to retailers with the VT82C686A (ata66) Southbridge. So far they have shown up at newegg.com. Your KK266 is supposed to have the VT82C686B (ata100) southbridge. If you get the wrong bridge on your new board, send an email to Iwill and tell them what you have. They'll gladly replace it with the correct one."

Simply look at the via chipset in the lower right side of the board if it ends in ...686B this should be ata100 compatible, if it says ...686A, you may have an ata66 board. This is confusing, I agree. They should fix the manual.

I'd suggest returning it just because VIA Chipsets are screwy...go with a good AMD 761 DDR board instead.
