I just did a clean install of XP and all my other progs and its all setup the way I like it... could some one tell me how i could make an image of it as it sits onto cdr's so that I could restore it to this setup in the future if I have problems again... I have Take2 by roxio but it won't work with XP, anyone know any other programs?

Nero comes with an option to back up entire HD to CDs. You could also give Norton Ghost a try, but you will need another HD or partition to back up your data.

The only fly in the ointment is that it qualifies as a major hardware change and you have to re-activate it. If anyone knows of a better way it would be here in Operating systems

PQ Driveimage is the way to go. It's a lot simpler to use first off then ghost is. Right from windowsXP you use the interface to select the partition to image and another partition or set of cd's to copy to. Hit go and the machine reboots and does it's duty then reboots back into windows.

I just did this last night using Ghost 2002. It backed up and compressed my partion right on to a cdr. I'm pretty impressed. Now instead of an hour for reinstall, I'm looking at like 10 minutes.:D

Though I have not used it personaly yet, I have been looking into Norton Ghost as my backup solution. Have you ever seen TechTV? That is what they use every night to backup thier systems with and they swear by it. I have read a lot of reviews on different backup software and I feel it is the best option.
Good luck.
