Just got my new HSF in the mail yesterday and can't wait to install it. I thought ask some questions to my friends here at the forums first so I make sure I don't fry my MB with the delta fan. I know you have to connect the 4 pin connector to the PS, but my question is: Is the only use of the three pin miniature connector to relay fan speed information? I want to make sure that this is not actually the hot wires as far as powering the fan goes. Anyhelp would be appreciated! Thanks...I can't wait to get overclocking my new Asus P4T-E and my 2.0a!!!

First, I hope you got the Swiftech MCX478 (Note 478!)..

One of the connectors of the molex is yes to detect the RPM of the fan, but when the fan drains so much amps which the motherboard can't take, your fan may kill the fan header, resulting in your chip damaged or so. It should come with a 3pin to 4pin, or just flat out 4pin.

Becareful when attaching this thing... Make sure when you tighten the bolts, your not going to scratch anything on the motherboard (This is known from a 462 Swiftech issue, so I really don't know how does the 478 install goes, should be the same though).

The HSF comes with both a 4 pin molex connector and the 3 pin. I am already going to plug the 4 pin into the PS, because I blieve the fan is powered by this 4 pin connector. If the 3 pin connector is just to measure the rpm's of the fan, is it really possible that it draws enough current to fry the header by just recieving rpm signals?
