Hey guys, I recently upgraded to the system you see in my SIG down there, and since this beast runs EVERYTHING I throw at it with ease, and absolutely kicks *** in gaming, I really dont feel much of a need to overclock the thing at this time. SO....

I decided to go ahead and try something different (for me) and LOWER the core voltage from the stock 1.75v to 1.725 then today to 1.7v and see if it is stable. IT IS! Running Prime95 a few web browsers, doing my mail, playing some games, seems to not care that it has less juice, and of course the great benefit of it is....LOWER CPU TEMPS! In my sig there are the numbers running a little overclocked and temps to go with it, now im running P95 full load @ 42c and Idle around 34c. The Athlon XP 1800+ is a really nice chip and since I dont see the need to OC it for now, is this a safe practice for the CPU?

If anyone has any similar EXP with doing this, please tell me all about it. I want to make sure im not damaging my CPU by running it with less juice then it needs.

Cheers!

No, it definetly won't hurt it any. But the lower you can go, and keep it stable, is a sign of a good overclocker.

Of course if you'd like a real way to stress test, try [email protected] . It's a great way to stress test, and help with some research. Check it out!

Ok, I will join the [email protected] team! Why not?! I can crank up the Stress on the CPU, and do something good for science, hehe. I am going to keep it at 1.7v for a few days, then try at *gasp* 1.675v and keep working my way down til I see the thing crash or something, hehe. It got me thinking since ALL XP's are 1.75v default and run at different speeds, some HAVE to be able to run at lower volts. *shrugs* still rock stable here crankin prime95!

Installing [email protected] right now =)

Cheers!

My Xp has to have more juice to get up around 1600Mhz. Like 1.95 for the 1590+, and 2.0 for 1617+

Congratulations!

Oh, and be sure that laptop has the laptop p4, not the regular P4 or your battery will run out very quickly.

congratulations!

um on the low voltage note... see how low it will dip and compare to mobile athlon, if the voltages are similar, you could probably transplant it somehow

Guys...

I was recently lucky enough to get a factory unlocked AYHJA 1.4. Until I put in my 7000rpm YS Tech on the HSF and the 120MM intake, I ran it at 14 at 1.65V and got 35c idle temps! And now with the fans, Im running it at 1600 at 1.775V with 40c idle temps!
