hi there I’ve got a intel 2.8ghz 474 at 800fsb not sure if its a prescott, but my idel temps at 32c at 3.4ghz and max load around 54c on cheap watercooled I’m gonna go with saying its a northwood. is there any way to push this to 3.6? I’m using a asus p4p800-vm main board a gig of ram and since this board wont oc I’ve made it oc using clock gen. Is there any other way to up the voltage or anything? I would like to see 3.6 out of this processor, but if its not possible then that’s cool 3dmark05 says the max on this processor is 3.6 so maybe I should try 3.5ghz?

I wouldn't go with what 3dmark05 says as the definitive answer as to how high of a CPU speed you will be able to attain when overclocking.

Run CPU-Z and see what kind of CPU you have. It will tell you the FSB and the L2 cache (Prescott has 1024kb, Northwood 512kb).

As for overclocking, I don't have personal experience with that board but if you can post the rest of your system spec's (memory brand/model, power supply at least, along with the cpu info), I'm sure there will be plenty of help.

:welcome: to the forums.

ya, 3dmark is telling you what the max theoretical speeds are. they have no bearing at all as to what you chip can do.

as was suggested by Know Nuttin, grab CPUZ to correctly identify your cpu first.

ok I'll get more info and post my specs and see whats goin on thanks guys. Ok i downloaded cpu-z and it is indeed a northwood 2.8ghz core voltage is set to 1.568 or 1.584 it bounces back and forth from those two. Buss is 800mhz fsb is 199.5mhz. I can get it to 3.4ghz, but anything after that and it locks up and restarts. My temps set at 50c on stressed tests using burnin 4.0 my guess is i can't break the 250fsb do to integrated video on the motherboard. Someone else mentioned that and I think thats right cause anything past 250 even 250.01 and it locks up. The chipset on the board is 865g if that helps
