yeah and you will have to work a helluva long time to get that CPU. just looking at the EE edition and seeing that price it doesnt make you want to buy that 4MB CPU......if it does exist

well with 65nm that's half the size of current p4's (I'm pretty sure) so in theory it would be the same size as xeons and EE's with 2mb L2...and probably smaller because the core would be smaller.

But it realy seems that cache isn't becoming nearly as important as it used to. I meen the 3000+ and 3200+ isn't that huge of a jump for the added heat output and everything. And with the EE it needs a hell of a lot of cooling.

I think cache in the past couple of years has increased at a much faster rate than CPU frequency's which is why it's starting to have a limited effect.

*drools* Imagine the memory bandwidth on that monster. I can see it costing alot though. Making 4mb of ondie L2 isn't the easiest thing to do so yields probably won't be all too terribly great. But could you imagine a celeron based on that with a 1 meg cache ooooooo.

considering intel has had such tremendous problems getting the 90nm manufacturing process to work well, i dont see how they could even begin to make 65nm chips. they're still working out the 90nm kinks i thought

Sounds very nice. As mentioned many times before, the price is going to be nuts. Also, it sounds like they will keep the GHz down so it might be a little easier to go to 65nm process, but it still will be quite hard for them to do this.
