I was going to make a system for a friend with Epox 87KA mobo, Tbird 1 Ghz, PC-2100 ram, ATI Radeon, yada yada yada. Before I did I told him to compare some prices and make sure my built computer really was the best price. So, he called the computer consulatant from his brothers office and here is the advice that he gave him paraphrased, "Do not use AMD processors because many progams will not run with them." He also went on to say that he had never heard of a Tbird processors which I thought rather hilarious. But, it does leave the question, is this true at all? If so what programs?

No, It's not true! I recently went from a PIII 800, Abit BE6-II, V5 to a T-Bird 1.2 gig, Asus A7A 266, & Radeon 64DDR. The new T-bird is a hell of alot faster and much more stable then the PIII 800 system ever was. In fact I've had far less problems and crash's since the upgrade. All the progs. that ran on my PIII system run fine with T-bird. That should answer your question.

a few years ago with AMD's K6 line of CPU's stability was in question due to a much weaker floating point then the PII's had. But since there K7's or Athlon's came out there just as stable and fast as any intel chip in my opinion. For price vs performance you can't go wrong with the T-birds.

I'm more satisfied with my new upgrade then I have ever been with any upgrade in the past. I've had a number of intel chips in the past. PII 266, PII 300, PII 400, PIII 600, PIII 800. And none of them impress me nearly as much as this new T-Bird 1.2 gig does.
