I recently got the KT7A, I used my old soundblaster live for the soundcard. After many days of tweaking with it, my computer would still crash. So I went out and buy a Hercules Fortimissmo II card. Reinstall Win98se. First thing I do is check the IRQ settings. All taken up!?!?!?!?!?! I install the soundcard drivers. Loaded up Windows and it locks up. I am a first time AMD user, for a good reason (problems like this has already made me by INTEL). I was in the techsupport field and had many customer who used AMD and this just bring me back those memories. If anyone has any idea why I should not just toss this POS out the window, let me know.

1st of all it is a better chip that intel, 2nd, have you considered disableing crap on your IRQ's you don't use anymore? Do you know what devices are assigned to what IRQ? I would not blame the CPU for what is happening here.:p

Yeah, definitely don't blame the processor for this. The processor wouldn't grab all the IRQs. You can assign IRQs in the BIOS, or you can go though hardware manager and check them out.

There are IRQ addresses that are shared,Usually these do not create a conflict,IRQ 4,6 are shared with the usb ports,However this should not be a problem.

I would Install the os with a VID card only Instal sound card in slot 5,AND BE SURE NEVER TO INSTALL A CARD BELOW AGP SLOT,As this irq is shared between agp and the first slot. This is the only serious conflict in irq sharing I am aware of.

MAke sure you install the correct version of the 4in1 via drivers before any other drivers.then install vid drivers ect.

I have the KT7A never had a problem with IRQ conflicts.

It's not an AMD problem !! It's a chipset feature - and is not a problem. There is something else that is stopping your PC from running with a sound-card in which I believe to be an inadequate power supply.
