i am new to pc builds and the main concern i have is the power and cooling. iv figured out the rest i think. can u guys give me any advise on the watts i need? ive already tried one of those calculators but am still not quite sure what i need.

heres the specs :comp: :

Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80619i73930k

ASUS Sabertooth X79 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

2 X ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

at least 1 X TOSHIBA PH3300U-1I72 3TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Retail Kit

starting with 1 might go for 8 later = CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10

ASUS Black Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS

at least 1 X Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)(for windows 7 pro)

and a Xigmatek Elysium Black CCC-HSA0DS-U01 All Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Super Tower Computer Case

as u can tell (being 17 and working at a diner) this will be vary valuable to me and i need to know for sure what watts i need. thanks for the comments.

I'm pretty sure a 1600 watt PSU is overkill, more likely you will need ~750w - 850w and even that should be more than enough. Of course I am no expert so if you want to hang around and check back for bobnova or someone else...

750w should be good for two 680
and you have two 660
also i would get 1 680 over two 660

also 2011 board you should do quad channel ram over single or dual

and go for a 3770k much cheaper

im wanting a build that will last me years(with upgrades) is the 3770k plenty fast?

oh and im using the pc for music production (with fl studio 10 signature bundle) and extreme gaming

extreme gaming?
unsure what you mean by this

but a i7 3770k is a very good CPU
i think it is better clock for clock (and price)

its better to build a cheaper system and buy a new one ever few year than to get a $2000 computer and keep it for 2-5 years

also get a 7970 or a 680

and for PSU no more than 750w are need unless you are planning on getting quad titans :salute:

so that money ill save on the processor will let me upgrade the asus gtx 660 ti to an evga gtx 680 and still save a little in the bank

adding a water cooling system will increase your power requirement but how much depends on the system, I am guessing.

With the i7 3770k you will need a 1155 board ASRock extreme 6 is a good board. If you are going to SLI or Crossfire the 750w will be plenty for that and the liquid cooling pump.:popcorn:

so now its a
