Just get something brand name, Sony, LG, NEC... you always end up paying more for a cheaper one, i.e. when your buying DVD+R and it does not handle as much media, your left with a spool of blank disks you cant burn.

You'd be surprised. my neighbor has a sony dvd-reader (no burner)... the damned drive didn't read any dvd+r discs, just dvd-r discs... his old like '00 dvd-reader read dvd+r and dvd-r....

that being said, Pioneer, Lite-On and Plextor are the best (Plextor being the best, but normally pricier as well).
