Is it OCing if you run higher FSB @ same Mhz?

I have an Abit KV7 that happens to unlock certain cpus without having to modify them. I've been running my 2200+ at 200x9 instead of its rated 133x13.5. Is this still more stressful on the cpu than running at rated FSB? CPU Mhz ends up identical. Am I hurting my cpu in any way?

Thanks!

I guess that "overclocking" is techincally making the CPu run above it's stock specifications in any way - so yes, you are "overclocking" your Thorton AMD XP processor.

You aren't hurting your processor - the same core is used in 3200+ Bartons which default at 200 X 11, and your Thorton could probably run at 200 X 11 without to much difficulty, with a little bit more Vcore voltage.

Raising voltage "lowers processor lifespan" - but we're talking about a 4 year lifespan instead of 10 years when dealing with fairly signifigant voltage raises (and you will have a new processor in 4 years - or I'd hope so anyways ;))

Just be glad you have an unlocked CPU.

I just assembled a computer for my boss at work after helping him choose the parts. The 2400+ was multiplier locked. While I didn't plan on overclocking it, I had planned on running it 200x10 rather than 133x15. No go.

He'll never know the difference, but it pained me to leave an A7N8X at 133 FSB.

It's still quite a bit better than his P233 machine it has replaced!

Actually, this cpu is a dud when it comes to overclocking. Looks like its limit is around 1880-1890 Mhz. It was running 135x14.0 when I had DDR266 ram, but at 200 FSB it won't even run stable at 203x9.5 (this mobo always runs 2-3 Mhz over what you set it at). I tried up to 1.8V but was too scared to push the voltage higher. I'm using a Cooler Master HHC-001 in a fairly well-ventilated case. Cpu temps range from 43C at idle up to about 52C at full load.
