Is it possible to enable the Thronton 512 cache and run it on an AT7?

here's the deal, i have a abit at7, i love it. but i want to go from a xp2100 to a xp2400 THORNTON so i can unlock the 256 cache to a 512 cache?

BUT, i need to know if it will run on the at7 with the 512 cache enabled. because if it wont i'll be wasting my time and just go for a new mobo (later on) is the AT7 board compatible with a chip that has a 512 cache unlocked?

i know it can only run a 266 fsb unless overclocked, and i'm not trying to run a 333 fsb. i just want the 512 cache.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

:)

Yes it will run on that board but unless you get an unlocked barton you will be stuck with a low FSB and unable to up your multiplier. Look around for an unlocked barton in the Classifieds or maybe eBay.

I think? they are unlocked before week 39.

Sorry! Ithought you wanted a barton>

A thorton would be fine but still you need an unlocked one if you want to open the cache.

thanks 7.

i'm going to start looking for one again.

a friend of mine bought one at a local pc store and it was faster than the other xp2400's. i imagine that it was an unlocked thornton. he is running it on a kx7333. i'll check the store where he got it from.

I tried to see if i could get a 333mhz chip to run my AT7-MAX, but had inconclusive results. Apparently it is possible, and has been done before, but I stuck with a 266mhz 2100+ TbredB as since I'm running a server, I wanted to ensure that I was running a supported chip. I've since clocked the chip to 2301mhz (~173FSB) without much effort or voltage incease (1.75v), and the system runs totally flawlessly (Prime for over 24 hours, which is as long as I was patient enough to let it run).

I say go for it, and tell me how it works out. I'd love to be able to upgrade to 512 cache on the server myself, if I could get the same overclock on the chip.

thank god someone has same setup.........

hey jerky, i know im late on this post but, i just recently added a 2100+ to my abit at7 and having problems overclocking with it. it seems my mobo cant handle the high frequency (2.17gig). my asus nforce2 had no problems achieving that speed with same cpu with default volts. my abit is locking up, rebooting, showing frequency changes ( one post shows 2162 and next reboot shows 2167 and then 2163 another time). i have raised vcore to 1.7 and same problems occur so volts dont appear to be the issue. could it be my memory? the bios states the 2100 is highest cpu in list (and i have the latest ED). two bios's ago they added support for 2400 and 2600 (barton i dont know). why not the 2200 or 2500? they not good enough or something......anyhow, maybe tomorrow if im bored and i get more artic silver i will switch out my new 2600+ barton and see if it takes it. its been two years since i played around with overclocking with my at7 and im begining to wonder why i stopped. oh, forgot to add, i have exact same video card....nice overclock...how in the world did you get it that high? what drivers you using for setup (via package, nvidia, etc..)? would appreciate a reply, brother ratts needs your advice since your achieving progress and im stuck in a rutt on mine.
