Well I've had my Samsung CD-Burner 52X24X52 for about 1-2 years. Whenever I burned a CD it would do it no problem but recently it has been acting up. Whenever it gets close to being complete like 99%-100%, it says "buffer underrun." It can burn 1 and then fails; sometimes it'll burn 3 then buffer underrun. Well I read about enabling DMA mode but it is enabled acoording to the Nvidia IDE Controller driver. I was wondering if this might be signs of a CD-Burner close to dying and if it's time to go get another burner.

Well if it is, which CD-Burner or DVD-Burner would be best? I need a burner that has some type of buffer under run protection and a reliable one as I burn very often. (Hm... 40-50 cd's a month.)

40-50 CD's/month is a lot. I am not sure if your burner is going out, but I guess it is possible if you are putting that kind of stress on it. I have an NEC 3540a and I like it. Others like BenQ and or Lite-on.

:santa: Wait till the holidays. I burn alot more cd's. ex: Nov. and Dec., it can hit 70-100 cds/month.

Would any of those burners from BenQ, LiteOn, Nec be able to handle the amount of cd's i burn? Also I heard alot good things about Plextor.

Heard many good things about the NEC and BenQ ones. I have the BenQ DW1640, and it runs great, but then, I don't burn 40-50 cds a month, so I can't really comment on that part.

I burn alot of movies in a month (25-30) , mostly with my trusty Nec 3500a (also have 3520a/3550a) and have been quite happy with all of them . Never a bad burn to date with the Nec's . Never owned a BenQ so I cant really comment ; but have heard they are pretty good .

I just a got a "LITE-ON Beige IDE DVD Burner Model SOHW-1693S". All I see is positive reviews and I went around looking at a few review sites. It's a good burner, not great according to reviews, reliable but slower then the BenQ DVD Burner. But the price was great :D. $37 + $4 Shipping @ newegg. But I dont know if it is gonna stay $37. Price Expires 12-12-05, but I dont know at what time.
