hi guys you are the experts

can you take a look at my specs below and give me any advice on an upgrade.

if you see a weekness in my system which would you say it was?

thanks guys

no need to upgrade your fine.

Unless is there something specific your trying to do that you find your PC bottlenecking you in?

BTW is your video card core clock @ 2ghz !?

do you think if i upgrde to some ballistix pc2-8500 and run them @ 1200mhz it will be any better than my current pc2-6400 @ 1000mhz

8800gts memory @ 2170

Would it be an improvement yes. Worth the trouble, not really. That is considering you will get 1200Mhz out of them which is no guarantee. The only thing I would change is you would feel the need for a quad in the future then pick up a penryn when they drop. Otherwise just relax and save your pennies for nehalem.

Sounds like he's just got the 'upgrade itch'.... no particular reason, but looking for something 'better'. ;)

Why not look into some extreme cooling? You might be able to break 4Gs with some more cooling, eh?

I'm gonna be using that Big Typhoon on my Q6600 whenever I get around to ordering a mounting kit for it. ;)

what board and ram would you recommend with that cpu.

also what overclocking speed can they go upto

Thats the million dollar question. If they still have the relatively lowFSB barrier as the Q6600's do then it will be fairly limited compared to what people are expecting due to the 8X multiplier. I personally don't think they are going to be the easy 4Ghz that is being spread around the internet.

I am not familiar with the board you have but the DFI you asked about and the FOXCONN MARS are both supposed to be very good at overclocking quads die to being able to adjust GTL levels on individual cores.

You don't need to, but If you really want to upgrade then I recommend the Q6600, TRU120E, and Foxconn MARS. 3.6GHz is almost certain, and higher 24/7 speeds are possible if you get lucky.

You have good RAM. Just OC and/or tighten the timings. A lot of good 6400 RAM will OC to 1100-1200 anyway. Have you tried to push the sticks you have?
