the highest FBS i can boot up on my 2.8 is 244 with my mem @5:4!even tried 3:2 . my mem is 256x2 corsair twinx xms 3200LLPT CL 2

BUT i am currently @ 230 FBS =3220 with mem 1:1 @ 2-3-3-6-4 and turbo enabled! and prime 95 runs 24/7

So i was thinking of getting new ram my choices are

:corsair pc 4000 pro

:OCZ pc 4000 gold

: Mushkin level 2 pc4000

whats the better ONE!

OR are the 2.8 not that overclockable?like the 2.4 s ?

Looks like CPU limit to me.
244x14=3.4Ghz = not bad at all. Whether it's a 2.4 or 2.8.

You can not expect to reach the same FSB with a 2.8, you can expect to reach about the same CPU speed, and I think you have.

It is possible you can inch a bit higher with move vcore and/or cooling with memory at 5:4 or 3:2, but I don't think new memory
will allow your CPU to go faster.

If the CPU is stable at 244, you may want to get some memory that can reach that speed 1:1 with reasonable timings.
How about OCZ Gold 3700 rev 2?
Should be able to do that speed with 2.5-3-3 timings.
Or you could leave your current memory 5:4 and tighten the timings, I guess it would do 2-3-2 since it would be underclocked.

AFAIK All the modules you mention perform about the same. About 260 with 3-4-4 timings. They may also be able to do 2-3-3 at 200 but since your current memory can do that or better it is not worth paying for.

Thanks for the advice ! Seems like 242 is the magic FBS! will boot @ 244-243 but not stable !

@ 242 prime 95 passes so then it is my cpu !

what is the best you think i can get on a 3.2?cause im building a new system for a friend and can use this 2.8 in his ,since he will not O/C!

what are some of the best O/Cing on 3.2 s? then if i get the 3.2 pc4000 mem will be a must?

Do'n't know much about 3.2's, never seen one.
What I can tell you is that PC4000 is not a must, it is most likely not even needed.

If we assume that it will run a little better than your 2.8 ( not guaranteed) we end up with these numbers.
2.8 @ 242 = 242 *14 = 3388
3.2 doing 3.4Ghz would have an FSB of 3400/16=213

Even if it were to do 3.6 the FSB would be 3600/16=225 so your current memory would be fine for that CPU.

Good luck!

The problem with the current memory is that it is likely CH5. Only early 3200LL is BH5. You need BH5 for this application. It is markedly superior to either CH5 or the PC4000 types for this usage.

how do i know or find out if its BH5 memory? I bought this memory from newegg 6 months ago!

Where do i look at the memory to find out or what app to use?

You have too look at the memory chips themselves and run the number through the winbond website. There may be another way that I'm not aware of though.

I have currently changed the timings to 2-3-2-6-8 @ 230 FBS -2.85 Volts and prime 95 ran 5 hours no problem!

i will try for 24 hours, this is 3200LL memory at these timings it must be BH5?

Nah, if it was BH-5 it'd probably do 6-2-2-2.0 @ 235fsb.
