So, as we all prepare for the Ryzen 2 launch next month and I especially prepare for an upgrade from my trusty old 8370/1060, i find myself looking for a card to "keep up" with possibly a 3700x and the latest games in either 1440p or 4K for the next ~3y, so I'm leaning towards an RTX 2080 - reason for it is not RTX or DLSS (although that is a very nice thing to have "for laterz"), but price and that my visual OCD rebels at jaggies so i want to play at higher resolutions with scaling, or have the horsepower to run MSAA 8x/SGSSAA (i have a 1080p 75hz LCD). Several brands and models popped up but the prices in the UK are very much all over the place, from the $600 PNY that offers Wolfenstein: Youngblood to the eye watering $800 MSI/Asus.

So, question time : apart from the cooling, what is the difference between them, and what is the catch for the PNY being by far the cheapest ? I can't seem to find reviews for it from reputable websites, is she that bad or simply an unknown brand ?

My most recent experience is with gtx460 by PNY, which may not even be relevant today. It still works fine. Looking at the pic, triple fan, so my uneducated guess is it should stay cooler and perhaps higher oc potential( if vrm capable and chip is ok) I think it's worth the price savings to give her a try:thup:

Will it fit? She's long..

Edit: I was going to say it's a steal, but then saw the sign and it's not USD..duh, you even said UK.:D
As far as I know, pny is mostly Best Buy brand here in the states. This where I got my 460 a long time ago.

There are a number of reasons really. I just had a quick look and the warranty on the PNY cards is two years which is quite low compared to their others. Many can be found with 5+ years. Definitely something to look at if you don’t upgrade often.

Also linked to warranty is customer service. I don’t think I have ever owned anything by pny so I can’t speak for that. But some companies are better than others if something does go wrong.

Another thing is the cooling solutions. Compared to some of the more pricey cards that one may be louder or simply not cool as well which will limit performance slightly.

Build quality may also come into it, cheaper components for the VRM’s maybe.

I’m not saying it is a bad choice and I am sure there are many happy customers out there somewhere. I myself have had many Zotac cards over the years with no issues and they are not one of the “big” names.

And @UltraTaco you can see 2080’s here in the UK for £900 so that’s a cheap one.

Mama Mia, big tall, that's pretty bad!! The card looks even more a steal then:D
Kenrou, you can fit a lot in there!:D

I had one pny card die on me. It was a long time ago. Pny verto 6600gt. 128mb. Dont know the cause. I'm sure a lot has changed since then..

East side driveway, trailer B20. White with green trim. On left side of driveway.

Exactly why Fractal got a long look from me recently.
My only experience with PNY was their RAM. It worked fine but trying to OC 1 MHz crashed the rig so hard I had to reinstall Winders. PNY makes a lot of stuff and have been around for quite a while, though. I think they're priced where they are for a reason. It will do the stock job but don't expect much past that.

But still, even if it doesn't overclock at all, running it stock and having -$200 bonus back into vallet is totally worth it.

Yeh prices are crazy because of brexit or not brexit. Whatever happens. The dollar to pound exchange is appalling so all tech is over priced.

I’m in the states next month and I am quite tempted to buy something whilst out there. Unless Navi looks promising.

Yeah prices here are a bummer... especially considering you can get a MSI 2070 Armor for $470 (and it comes with Wolfenstein: Youngblood as well)... reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally liking the 2070 prices much better considering the performance is around the block with a good OC

I avoid PNY like the plague.
It is basic minimum brand name is all. Nothing special, OC's like crap, memory or GPU's both.
If it quits, their CS and RMA policies blow.
:p
