Hey guys, OC forums has helped me alot in the past, but this is my first trip to the Network forums, hope I can have the same success here :). What my problem is, is that the router we use in on the bottom floor of our house connected to the household computer. My computer is on the third floor in my room. While signel strength is normally "Fair" to "Good" i still get random disconnects when playing games and pages that have to be refreshed before they load. All and all i would rather just connect through a wire i possible. Now I cant find any way of getting a ethernet cord into my room so unfortunatly thats out, what I was wondering is if its possible to buy something (excuse my ignorence im new to this) that would allow my to connect to our broadband through the phone jack in my room. I tried plugging another modem in, in my room (showing my ignorence :p) but it didnt seem to like that, is there something else I can use?

Thanx for any help on this, its driving me insane :p

Move the existing mode upstairs, and use wireless downstairs?

Really the best options are running a CAT 5 cable and wireless. There is power line netwking, but am not sure it would be any better than wireless for you. Can't really use existing phon wiring and stay within the design specs.

Ah damn...i dont think there is any way to route CAT5 cables, heck I dont think even a electricion could do it without tearing half the house to bits...although not being a electrician I dont know for sure. I guess I will have to give that ago, otherwise it looks like I am doomed to have a bad internet connection :(

HomePNA networking may work for you. HomePNA shouldn't interfere with your voice or DSL service since it uses a part of the spectrum above either. I don't know what's involved in setting up a network, and hardware seems to be pretty hard to find. Probably good if you absolutely can't get wireless or Ethernet to work...

That looks cool, i cant buy from newegg coz I live in New Zealand but im sure I can find them somewhere. Arnt those the things ErikD said would probably not give me much more quality than the wireless currently does?

Yes, move the modem to your room, and beam a signal down to the other computer. Someone just surfing wont really notice a brief dropped signal. If you really need to, you can build or buy a more powerful antenna for the router to focus the wireless signal at the other computer.

yeah, that would be best if you really can't run a cable, because those powerline things are really supposed to be horrible, I read a few reviews when they came out and it really didn't sound too promising
