Hey, I'm just looking for some tips. I've read almost every article on here and google about overclocking this processor. So I began by setting my memory multi to 6 and uncore to 12. The only voltage I've touched is my dram at 1.66v due to my memory specs.

Trial 1: 160bclk x 22 = 3.519 stable after 15min prime95
Trial 2: 165bclk x 22 = 3.629 stable after 15min prime95
Trial 3: 170bclk x 22 = 3.739 stable after 15min prime95
Trial 4: 175bclk x 22 = 3.849 stable after 15min prime95
Trial 5: 180bclk x 22 = 3.959 stable after 15min prime95
Trial 6: 185bclk x 22 = 4.069 stable after 30min prime95

Trial 6 left me with max temps of 80c 77c 76c 76c

I'm goin to lapp and reseat to get the temps a little lower.

Next I'm going to try and get my memory up to speed and probably drop the bclk a little because I don't like getting near 80c. I haven't touched any other voltages besides dram. Is this normal? Once I start tweaking the memory will i see failures? I still haven't bsod, I could try higher but need to get cooler first.. Can I hurt the cpu by not giving it more voltage at these speeds?

I guess after all my reading i figured I'd have more issues? I have that "too good to be true" feeling going on right now.. lol

Id bet you are on AUTO voltage. If you didnt touch voltage settings for the CPU, it defaults to AUTO even if you overclock.

I can assure you that your voltage isnt at the stock setting under load. Do what wingman99 said and get CPUz and also RealTemp to monitor your temperatures. Both are very important programs.

Also, 30 min of P95 isnt anything for that CPU. With the original i7's, Intel Burn Test (IBT) did a much better job of finding instabilities. I remember being able to run P95 for hours and IBT would fail before it would complete 10 passes. Be sure to max out the ram as well on IBT. If it can run through 10 passes of that maxed, its probably good just give it a good actual game play to ensure its stable (BF3 loves to find unstable CPU clocks).

+1... betting money that it is on auto, which will raise the voltage automatically. ;)

Thanks guys. I did have some issues bringing up the ram frequency. Then I had issues with my GPU and had to bring down my OC on that a little. It is on "auto" and cpu-z says while at 3.8ghz I'm using 1.376v to 1.360v under load. Can't believe I missed that info :bang head lol I'll try the other bench tests as well. My bet is i'm not even close to stable yet. thanks! LLC was on standard i beleive, or enabled, one of the two.

That's the problem with AUTO...it usually uses a LOT more than necessary to ensure that you're stable. My 920 was about 1.26-1.27 to be stable at 3.8GHz, 1.31-1.32V for 4GHz.
