A short while ago, I discovered (much to my dismay) that my motherboard did not have a health monitoring chip on it, as I had previously thought that it did. While I'm looking into options (things to a few suggestions by other members) for monitoring the temperature so that I can at least try and keep from frying my CPU, I was hit with an idea last night when my MSI-6905 slocket finally showed up. Would it be possible to make a socket 370 to slot 1 adaptor, or even a socket 370 to socket 370 adaptor, that added the health monitoring support, and fed the data out to the motherboard as if it was incorporated on the motherboard?
This would very likely have to be something that was made by an actual company- I would imagine (though I could be wrong... there are some pretty skilled people out there...) that something like this is a bit more complex than you could put together in your garage, or even a school electronics lab. I would think that there are at least a reasonable number of people out there with slightly older boards that don't have the health monitors, and that there would be at least a somewhat reasonable market for something like this. Heck, even making a slocket that could access the temp monitor on the chip itself and have a plug for an external temperature monitor would be useful. Any thoughts, particularly from those more versed in motherboard architecture than I?
