changed my mobaord last night from a 8inxp to a 8knxp (so very similar moboards) and my temps have gone up by about 3 degrees idle !!!

I used artic silver this time as well. Maybe teh layer was too thick or i moved teh block aroudn too much when securing the clamps.

I didnt think the mobaord temp probes could be differ so much on similar models !

For one thing the mobo manufacturers don't put a lot of money into the circuitry necessary to linearize a heat sensor, so the fact is there will more than likely be a difference in temps between identical mobo's. And, it could be more than three degrees.;)

are there any links to pictures of dallas type probes on cpu's

i'd like to get a proper reading

presumably i put teh probe alongside one edge of the Pentium heat spreader and cover it in artic silver ?
