Hey guys im new to the overclocking scene but me and my businiess partner were looking into getting some quad core pcs to speed up our editting processes

anyway we were looking at these.
if you guys can take a look at them and tell us what would be a good idea
and what is more ideally able to be overclocked that would be great

Thanks!

Welcome to O/C Forums :welcome:

The first one might have a chance as it's a P43 chipset. The other 2 i'm not so sure about.

Don't expect much of an oc with any of those setups as I'm sure they're built using motherboards that have very limited bios settings. The P43, however, may be tweakable.

My suggestion would be to buy the parts separately and build your own pc.

if we were to build our own pcs how much approximately would that cost us in comparison to these?

Hey whats up. I would say out of those first is the best. Although power supply and graphics card are not that great. A 9800GT card can be purchased for near 100 dollars now. Basically other then the processor the ebay computers are pretty cheaply built because I sas just in your situation recently and went through this whole dilemma. Your not going to be able to overclock any ebay computer basically because they arn't made for it also they don't come with an OS so add atleast 60$ on top of that.

I am building my own pc for the first time right now and total it cost me 530 dollars buying everything from newegg.com (170$ of MIR) (without OS)

That includes raidmax case, gig p45 board, ati 4850 gfx card, ocz psu, ocz mem, etc.. etc.. very nice equipment. If you tell us a budget and what you want I or someone could easily put together a nice list for you of quality parts. But putting it together takes some patience you gotta be up for it.

we would like to stay around the 550-600$ mark but we can prob go up to 750 max

thanks alot :]

what kind of editing are we talking about? does the price listed need to have the OS included? how much hard drive space do you need or will be you grabbing files from a NAS box?

for starters i would start with somethink like
Q6600
Gigabyte EP35-DS3L or EP35-DS3R
4gigs DDR2-800

no monitor, keyboard mouse, or os are needed. its video editting on premiere as well as graphic design in illustrator, photoshop and 3d graphics in after effects as well as maxxon 4d and 3dmaxx

Here is another setup for $558 after Mail-in Rebates, not including case, CD/DVD burners, etc. Motherboard does include onboard RAID controller. The CPU is a pick-up at the store only item at Micro Center, so if there is not one near you, you may have to pick a different CPU.

ASUS P5Q SE/R Motherboard for $88 after $15 MIR

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5GHz for $180

OCZ Platinum 4GB DDR2 1066 Memory for $35 after $30 MIR

Gigabyte Radeon HD 4670 Video Card for $55 after $20 MIR

2 Seagate 500GB SATA II Hard Drives for $130

PC Power & Cooling 750W Power Supply for $70 after $40 MIR

awesome guys thanks alot.

with these setups does anyone have any ideas on what proc speeds i can expect with overclocking?

There's no way to predict an overclock, since it depends so strongly on the characteristics of your individual chip, mobo, ram. Also how warm you're comfortable running the proc, or what kind of cooling you use.
