is this stepping any good??

Steppings can only be found on the Internal Heat-Spreader on top of the CPU. It is usually a 5-letter code. For example, CABNE.
Also, there's no way to tell how far a CPU will overclock without actually doing it. Some "good" steppings overclock poorly, and some "bad" steppings overclock well. One can establish the desirability of a stepping by looking at all overclocks of that stepping, compared to others.

The thing is, if you've already got the CPU, it doesn't matter what stepping you've got. See how far it will OC before selling it off because "It's a bad stepping". BUT if you were allowed to choose from any stepping you wanted, THEN it would matter.
Usually, however, there is no choice.

I would expect an OC to around 2.6ghz-2.7ghz with that, maybe a tad lower. But then you have generic ram, so it may be tougher to get the speeds you want.

Thanks a whole bunch for the rsponse guys.

So I guess the only way to find out is to have a look on the IHS. I have had the Proc for while now.
I am getting some coarsar ram, hopefuly today! *crosses fingers*

The onlt thing holding me back is the damn motherboard. :( So in order for me to find out just how far it will go, i have to get a new one.

I am looking at this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6832279384&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
Not to pricy, but with all the settings I will need.

If I can get 2.5 prime stable I will be more then happy.

Merry christmas to you all! :santa:

Well, I have just had a look at the steppping code.

CBAZC 1053apmw

Irts a little scary pulling the cooler away and seeing all those little pins staring at you from underneith. :) But its all been replaced, and is still working.

Well it cost me £18 a stick. seems pretty cheap. But I'll have to take one out to have a look.

And i read on the boards somewhere that Micron and coarsar RAM are made in the same factory?

Well I am looking a one of the sticks now, and the is no sign of a Bh-5 anywhere. is ther a programme that can tell me.

As for the board. This Foxconn has but ONE overclocking optoin. I can up thr HTT to 232Mhz. :( (and alter the RAM devider&timings)

And I was refering to the message board. :p

The acual chip on the RAAM stick says MT 46v32m8

Well, I got a fatal error within a minute in prime95 at 210mhz HTT 2.5-3-3-6. (default timings)

So i dropped the RAM from 200 to 166mhz and it seems to be going well.
