Well, Its about that time of year again when upgrades are nessary. I just upgaded my CPU from my 3700+ San Deigo to a Dual Core Opteron 165. No more problems with CPU. Now time to upgrade the videocard...I was thinking about getting another 6800GT for SLI but then again, id be spending 300$. After a bit of arguing with my self I was thinking I could sell my 6800GT for a fair ammount, throw in some cash and go up to a 7800GT, and possibly SLI later on. I don't really have much money at all to work with so 7800GTX will be out of the picture. Think its worth it?

if you really don't have much money to work with (like me, and most of the people on here), then I would say no way 6800GT will play all current games pretty darn well, and the next UT, upgrade then if you are not satisfied with how things look, and maybe get an 8800GT.

I upgraded to the 7800Gt when I went PCI Express. After I sold my old AGP card and got a good deal on the 7800Gt, it only ended up costing me about 50 bucks. So yea I think if you can sell for enough, and find a decent deal then go for it.

No its just not worth it IF you have spent lots of money, for one very special system , based on the AGP slot .

If not , nothing then matters .

Hmm...well...My 6800GT is a very nice card. I'd admit that I love it to death and I bet it can break some single 6800GT records too. It maxes out on air at 464/1260. It plays all of today's games at maxed out settings...but I'm one of those kinda guys that die for max eye candy, fsaa & af. The 7800GT is a near 50$ away and with the money I will rake in for christmas, I don't want to blow all of it on one thing. So I'm thinking selling my 6800 & adding in a little cash will give me a next gen card, and a decent little performance boost. PLUS overclockage...AVG's 7800GT does 15 ~ 15.5k on 3DMark03, I can break about 15.1k with this 6800GT but the clocks were not game stable. So I could only imagine increasement...especially with HDR...this card ROCKS in it but DoD:S 1280x1024, maxed settings, 4xfsaa/8xaf just keeps it below the fps I like. If i buy any 7800GT it has to be an eVGA.

Edit: Would the Zalman on my 6800GT work on the 7800GT?

COME ON people , NUMBERS NumBeRs .... numbers .... its all numbers .

You will not be more happy with even the 9000GTX .

At 1600 res ,all the games just dance with the 6800GT.

But i have one idea , if everything is a race to you, build your own video card , that will make the 3Dmark 5K to score at 60.000 , its a nice number hey :p :attn:

Umm....I don't know where you got that idea from...I'm just wanting a little better performance and a slightly newer card...T/GFSAA would be nice to have too...

I was considering the same thing, but then mines a AGP 6800GT, so I'd need a new mobo and CPU and all that stuff.

I'd say definitely go for the 7800GT, no point in getting the 7800GTX unless your monitor is actually good enough to support resolutions that high.

go for it, lifes too short, get a 7800 gt with 512 ram then sli with another when u get the extra cash.. make a goal, say by... march, to get ur second on ;) SLI BABYYY W000ttt.. but then don't come to us in june asking if you should get 4 8800GTs for a quad sli.. cause that just might be a possibility by that time

How old are ya , 87 ? :D

Hey do not make so dramatic replys, its just a damn video card.

Because I don't want to waste my time & money on something that would offer me no increasement of any sort...I was simply asking the fellow members of ocforums a damn question taht has a simple answer and maybe a few personal experiences....

Anyway i would diffently cash in on the 6800GT while you can buy a 7800GT and add a second one for SLI should keep you until. Nvidia 9800 series :D

I would do it, but you know me lol :D
Only problem is the small gap in price between a eVGA 6800gt and 7800gt and yeah the zalman should work with it.

The guy from greece is jealous pay him no mind lmao

So making a thread asking for people's opinion "Isn't worthy" and is considered "Spamming"? Oh my oh noes...I guess we gotta go empty out half of this forum and let you **** on all of their threads. And since my thread is such uselessness and spam, quit posting in it.
