its all luck of the draw, i think the VIVO versions have a higher chance, but i've only seen OEM VIVOs, meaning no warranty

So far I have heard the vivo ones are more likely also. But I remember seeing somewhere, someone was making a database of which cards were succesful and which were not. So we could get an idea of which ones were taking the softmod.

There was a guy in the 3dmark forum and he bought the powercolor vivo x800 and it took the softmod. And the company he bought it from has them in stock, so I was thinking of buying one.

Moreover, the Powercolor vivo x800s seem to have the same RAM as the XT PE versions (1.6ns). I do not know if this is true for ALL Powercolor Vivos but on Xtremesystems.org forums, there is a poll about how many Powercolor Vivos successfully modded and how many failed and there are only 2 failed ones with 17 successfully modded ones. The rumor is that all Powercolor Vivos are simply re-branded XT PEs with the same RAM and everything. I am thinking about grabbing one myself...

I think I saw a reference to the guide you are talking about at Rage3d, someone was posting about it in the ATI tweakers section. As for the Powercolor VIVO cards the one I have was softmodded as is running flawlessly with the Gygabite XT PE Bios and 520/560 clocks. When I ordered this one I also ordered one for a friend. His will take the softmod and open the piplines but will not run at the higher clock and memory speeds. My guess is that some of the Powercolor cards were XT cards that could not handle the clock rates.
