Hi all!

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post!

Well, my first post, since the forums is named this way, is about a certain problem regarding overclocking..

I have an Acer Extensa 4630G, Intel C2D T5800 2.0GHz, 4GB RAM, WinVista Home Premium, and a GeForce 9300M GS, 256mb.

Presently, I'm on 185.20 DOX drivers and I am trying to overclock my card, actually ever since I got them and installed the official 179.48 drivers.

Thing is, when I use NVIDIA System Tools, and start OC'ing, a prompt comes up that says something like "settings are invalid and will not be applied". Upset, I moved on to using RivaTuner v2.24.

When I apply the settings (only applying 10MHz) and hit ok, the sliders just jump back to default! I try various third party OC programs and they do the exact same things when I oc. What could be the problem?

I have yet to try CoolBits, maybe this night when I get home, do you guys think it would be any better? I'm thinking either the drivers or the BIOS has been edited by Acer to forbid users from OCing, but is that possible? Also, is it possible to go around this hindrance so that I could proceed with the OC? I already mailed acer support and I'm wee bit doubtful that they'd answer me on that fact, so here I am, relying on the good people of OCF for ideas on how to resolve this matter..

I'd really, really take your replies with as much gratitude I could muster, and also I intend to be active in this forums reading and writing as much stuff that I can for the forums.. I hope some of you will answer this question. Thanks much and more power!

Try using 169.04 drivers.

wouldn't that make the performance go down big time?

I've heard 169.04 drivers break the locks, but so do 185.20 drivers (supposedly), but really can't get to overclock right now.

How much quality would I be having less ever I downgrade to 169.04?

Theres not much the drivers can extract out of that card. If the 185.20 breaks the lock then I would say use them instead. I know someone who was having the same problem like yours with 9300M GS but 169.04 worked for him and he achieved some amazing overclocks on the core clock. +33%

Well, now I'm gonna try the unmodded 185.20 and see if it breaks the lock, otherwise I'll go looking for the 169.04 one. And then update. :D anyway any of you hav heard of NiBiTor? (NvidIa BIos ediTOR)
