UNDECIDED...Can you guys tell me if the Iwill KA266-R is a good board for overclocking, do you think I can do better and is this an easy board to overclock ,I am new to overclocking but itching to try!

I'm using the KK266 pure (no RAID). has 4way interleaving, runs great with PC 133 RAM as well 1.0 @ 1495, But my Nic limits me to 1454.

It is a good mobo and overclocks w/ good DDR memory.

Hello,

I used an Iwill KA266 for my first overclocked machine and could not be happier ! I did a lot of reading @ overclockers.com and used the knowledge I gained here to pick the parts for my machine. I use water cooling ( danger den parts ) and a $50.00 650 T Bird chip from PC Nut that has gone to 891 so far and thats just via the FSB . My pencil unlock failed and I have to find time to do the defoger paint deal to unlock the chip . I hope to get it to run stable @1000. Take full advantage of the board and use an ATA 100 hard drive . Crucial has great prices on ddr memory right now about $65.00 for 256

Good Luck , Billy

ps: if you go that way and want to share ideas just email

I have no doubts that the KA266 will overclock, but but how high will it overclock? You might want to check on its stability issues I've heard of. I too am building my first AMD overclocking machine and have spent hours doing homework on the right board, this is what ive come up with. The Epox 8kt7a+, first its AMD 761 chipset which is better then ALI, the fsb goes to 166 vs. 143 from the KA266-R, and has a voltage boost of .4 volts, KA266-R doesn't have a voltage boost. The cost is almost the same. But be the judge for yourself, check the reviews! SO GO DO YOUR HOMEWORK NOW.

IMHO I would take the advice of users in this forum over a review, even one of our own, any day!
Why? Because to be timely a reviewer publishes ASAP. We reviewers try to get it right! But we are almost always using one set of gear, and reporting on our first experience of a motherboard (or anything else).

The views of this forum express an experience of a great diversity of equipment used over an extended period of time. this can revile how a MB reacts to different RAM, hard drives, video cards, nic's, and OS's along with just about any other part you can think of.

Spending time here IS doing your home work! I can't remember how many times review sites have gotten it totally wrong!

You know what? Joe and Ed are in TOTAL agreement ":O}

One last thing, a bit on the touchy side of things. The guys here aren't being paid by anyone to say nice things about a product. You never have to wonder what might be going on behind the scenes. Something we have seen all to much of!

Thanks to all ; at least I have it down to two boards, you have all been very helpful...maybe I'll flip a coin tommorrow!

hehehe

I guess wanting higher than 146 is part of the P3 experience. Yes high fsb really helps the P3, but it does not have the DDR front side bus as do AMD's .
IMO there is no need for higher fsb than 146, and this is just to compensate beetween multiplier settings. I have done extensive testing with folding@home, seti@home, and few benchmarks, and it is the overall speed that counts, fsb speed is no bottleneck in AMD's and if you run your mem at 133 or higher you are just fine.
