Have downloaded the most recent bios and still unable to change the bios setting for the FSB it stays light blue while the ones I can modify are in black. I have removed the battery reset the jumpers nothing changes. http://www.gateway.com/support/techdocs/references/motherboard/4w4sb0x0/4w4sb0x0.shtml This is the MB I have chatted with a "knowledgeable tech" at Gateway to no avail. I am using an Intel Celeron 300A with 128 MB of PC133 SDRAM. Can you help?

Hello Wild Bill and welcome to the forum!

Unfortunatly Dell, Compaq and the like put some "tamper restrictions" on proprietary borads that do not usually allow room for "tweaking". I'm actually surprised you were able to get a 'tech' to talk to you as they should have warned and disclaimed something about voiding your warranty.

More than likely if you want to overclock that processor, more than likely a new mobo may be in order. =(

If you understand that OCing (tampering) will void your waranty, you can take apart your case, and look on the motherboard for the clock generator, write down the number and use CPUFSB with the matching clock generator number to overclock.
I found this easier than using the motherboard on both SoftFSB and CPUFSB, since they weren't supported.
you can do this if you don't feel like changing your motherboard....which is what i did(no money) :)

There's one thing that ya can try though. I see that mobo supports 100 FSB, so try taping the B21 pin. This pin tells the mobo whether to use the 66 or 100 FSB. With any luck you'll be toolin' @ 450 MHz :)

Can you provide more information on how to do this taping?
