UPDATE
After about a week or so of burning in my cpu based upon sentinel's methods I HAVE NOW ACHIEVED AN INCREDIBLE STABILITY!!! I AM AT MY PREVIOUS 2.5GHZ OVERCLOCK ONLY RUNNING AT 1.37VOLTS!!! IT IS SUPERPI 32M STABLE!! I am going to slowly increase the overclock and aim at 2.6 stable! muahahahahahaah

Awesome! Good OC and I can't wait to see if you hit 2.6!!

Kick ***

Kick *** computer Alen. I found this post after ordering all new parts to build myself a new 64bit system and I must say I was pleased to find that I ordered a few of the same parts you are using. I am a newb and I have been reading up on post for the last few weeks in order to get a good overclocking computer for a reasonable price. What I finally went with after half a dozen cancelations from newegg and zipzoomfly:

DFI Lanparty ultra D
2x512 Mushkin blue BH-5 (hopefully, won't know till I get it on monday)
Fortron 500W Blue Storm
MSI Geforce 6600gt

I havn't ordered a processor, I am holding out for either the venice core or a pricedrop in the Winchesters, but I will get a 3200+. I know our memory is a little different but I was hoping I could get some help from you when I set this thing up. Sadly I have to wait a little while before I come up with a good cooling solution, for now i'll have to run stock, but that will give me some time to break in the components and read up on what I need to know before I start to overclock. I think I should get some nice results though, tell me what you think.

How much will you be paying for your memory?

Good choice on waiting for Venice/Diego, i'm doing the same thing.

I am buying the ram discussed in this thread:

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=377110

It cost me 120 dollars. I bought the dual channel set and I am crossing my fingers that its the good stuff. (BH-5)

Either way, I am a newb to this stuff and I want to take it slow. I'd like to have the best components so tht if I do want to try to take it to the extreme I will be able to, but for right now I will be content with a modest overclock. I certainly will not be doing much till I get some kind of beefy air or water cooling though.

those parts look awesome man i replied before but my post got deleted or something lame like that. I would have chosen the same parts u did mainly if they were available where i live. in regards to cooling i would go with air since u dont want to buy a watercooling setup when you dont really know much about it at all. I would recommend a thermalright xp-90 they are like top of the line air cooling you also will need a fan and you should pick one according to how loud you want your computer to be but make sure it pushs some nice CFM. Great :)

UPDATE:

Ok I was doing many burn ins running the cpu at 2.6 but that resulted in a whole mess of results that would not become stable. So i went back to my previous stable overclock which was 2.5 at 1.425 volts and i uped the mhz to 2.7. before prime would fail after 10 minutes or now after many hours of burning in prime95 has been running for 45 minutes before i stoped it to start a new burn in I am now uping the mhz to 2.6 and leaving the voltage hoping for a super long burn in session that will result in a prime stable at 2.6 mhz :)

UPDATE!

It has been quite awhile since I posted in this thread but I have new parts for my computer in the mail. here is a little background history of what I have been doing in the past months. First of all I moded my ultra-d to SLI spec and bought a second 6600gt (and am running it flawlessly). I also have bought 512 more ram of the same PQI 2-2-2-5 so I now have a total of somewhere around 1.5 gigs of ram ><! Also summer temps have completely ruined my overclock so I am resulting in extreme measures to get this box running at a cool rate :) It doesnt help that my room is the hottest in the house naturally. So now I list the fun part!

Current parts in the mail being shipped 2 me:
(2x) Vantec tornado 80mm fans
(2x) silverstone 120mm fans
Vantec nexus 3.5" fan controller.
10feet of Clearflex 60 3/8" inner diameter
2feet of Clearflex 60 1/2" inner diameter
1 1/2" barb to 1/2" insert

Current projects are as follows:
1) Reinstall my entire watercooling loop with clearflex 60 and find a shorter loop route rather than the long one I have currently.
2) Mod my MCP350 swiftec pump inlet so that it can flow 1/2" Inner diameter tubing.
3)Cut 2x 120mm blowholes on the top of my chieftec case (hehe moding it allready)
4)Create a watercooled fan system out of an old ocelating(spelled wrong) fan. (this is the coolest idea that I am going to implement to allow my room to be cooler during the hot hot hours of the summer (around 12-3pm). I plan on purchasing these parts tommorrow from the home depot. A link to this system is as follows.

a pic of the system is below :) cool isnt' it? (this is not my own setup mine will be more elite).

Here is a pic of my SLI SETUP. Now some of you may be wondering where I got my SLI bridge but that's easy. NGEAR makes replacement ones hehe I bought mine from www.ncix.com (i love that company and would totally recommend it since the shipping is rediculously fast and I dont pay PST since I live in ontario and they are a BC based store)

And a pic of the SLI bridge

If you look at the pic of my current loop you can see that I made some very lame choices in regards to tube length as a result I got kinks all over the place. I plan on doing a before and after shot of the pre kinked/long tubes and the revamped clearflex 60 tubes. I am also going to do a step by step process on how I did my mods this time around.

On another note I've been busy moding my brothers old computer and making a linux box downstairs. I did some fun case moding on an old biege case and added (2x) blowholes and updated his system to a nf7 2.0 2500+ mobile barton overclocked baby! its running at 2.4 and it is just awesome. I will post pics of that mod when my camera battery recharges. Also pics of my downstairs linux box install will also be up

UPDATE

Ok today I went out and made myself a watercooled fan! it is the coolest thing ever here are pics of everything. I plan on making a larger resevoir and filling that with frozen bottles of water to improve the cooling of my room :). So far I have only tested out this fan in non oscelating mode and when that breeze is directly on you it is freezing cold! I can't wait to get a bigger res (tommorrow) and try out the ice cooled water :)
