Here is how I found out this horror

Earlier I had redone my case trying to improve air flow...I installed 2 more case fans with the 2 I alrdy had in...Well After i had done this I booted up the pc noticeing no change from idel temp of 26c when it came from the normal 35c after loading windows, so I jumped on the net and checked my email and started reading the forums here and over at madonion. Mean While I had Winamp playing 320kbps Mp3 rips of the Fast and The Furious sound track...
Well I tried to load up teh Max Payne website..IE said " Website Found Waiting for Reply..." so I thought well Ill just move these case fans around whlie that site loads...if it loads...So I went to teh kitchen to grab some tiee's..came back and moved a fan near where the cpu HSF is and looked with horror at the fan on the HS ,It wasnt turning turning....I was like oh sh*t....looked over a monitor windows was still running...looked back at the fan and found the plug for it and pluged it into the mobo....I check temps they were 26c, then they started to fall to 24c....according to Via Hardware monitor.

So now I know that the ZT bios doesnt check to see if there is a fan pluged into the mobo for the cpu...

Now whats really freaky is that the cpu didnt fry in windows load...or just ideling for that matter!! And I thought the heatsink I have is crappy...And this is a 1gig 266 tbird @ 149x7.5.

thankfully I didnt go play tribes 2 before I found this...

And to beat it all the MaxPayne website still didnt load lol

I'm not running the ZT BIOS but I have a KT7AR. I believe the original BIOS' had this feature locked in as "mandatory"....Shortly after, later BIOS' had the option to either enable or disable the CPU fan header feature. Have you checked to see if you have the ability to either enable or disable the protection feature?

I'm sure it's possible Abit has taken the feature out all together but I'd hope they would leave it as an option. Good luck!! Let me/us know!

Well it seems that it is Disabled by default...odd Why would it be Disabled by defaults because I just resetted my BIOS this morning and I hadnt even when to the PC-Health status screen to disable it.

The option was first visible in the WZ bios. I think it's rather good that it doesn't want a fan in the header 1, as not everyone has their fans plugged to the motherboard. For instance, if you that Delta screamer there, there's a huge chance it'll fry the header... What to do then? Can't boot... Hotflashing to a newer BIOS looks like the only option.

Well Im not saying it should be removed..Im just saying that it shouldnt be disabled by default.

could be tech support was getting 100 inquiries a day"my computer wont boot".They considerd it a fix on the newer bios's

As I recall is was the WW BIos it was last used on. After that they disabled it. I had a fuss of a time realizing why it would not post till I put the fan on header 1. After that they disabled it because people were having problems with it is my guess..

Maestro

Myth 38cfm delta fries header on Abit 133a series boards.

I run my fan from the motherboard BECAUSE ABIT upped the voltage that can pass through this header on all 133a chipset boards,Read there tech bullitens.

And I agree header should not allow post if fan dies or is disconnected, but life is full of **** that hurts LMAO.

And the 3c bios I think is the best of them all

I am glad its disabled by default. Otherwise what would i do on my first boot. Plug in my delta and risk frying my mobo? I would probably have to find my YS tech, i think its in the closet, not sure. Overall it would be a reall pain in the you know where. And even if you had played tribes 2 it probably wouldn't have hurt anything, it would have just crashed.

Actually, the first time booting or after clearing the cmos, you have to have a fan in the header. That is to prevent an initial tragedy. After that it is disabled.

Hoot

Well, doesn't matter to me... I've got my blorb plugged in the fan header 1. And I just flashed to ZT again :) Haven't tried 3C nor 3R yet and I doubt I will.
