Wassup d00ds, I just got my Athlon XP 1900+ from the FedEx man, the stepping on it says: AGNGA. (But that has nothing to do with my question :D.) My question is this... when I put this badboy into my mobo, is there anything special I need to do in the BIOS settings? Will is auto-detect the CPU and change the multiplier and FSB automatically? Or is there some procedure I need to follow? Thx.

OK, here's the scoop. IF you did not have an XP in B4.
You'll need to reinstall Windoz to take advantage of the SSE.

Major discussions have gone on about this when they 1st came out.

Good Luck.

Okies. So I will reinstall windows after I put the XP in. Thanks for that info. But do I need to do anything special in the BIOS when I put the CPU in, or will it auto-detect the new CPU and change the multiplier and fsb automatically?

Ryz,

When I first put my 1800 in (new comp, no OS) I had to adjust the FSB and the multiplier to get it up to 1.53Ghz... it was reading at somewhere around 1.01....

Just FYI, maybe yours will be different,

Good luck

hmmm that seems quite odd, especially on an AK31

you should have no problems with the FSB and MULTI from what
i have experienced :p

Okay, it's all good. It is running and it's fine. The only thing is, at 12 x 133, WCPUID detects it as 134 Mhz FSB. I don't know what's up with this... it causes my fave game (Tribes) to crash. Back when I had my Tbird 800 (which was 8.0 x 100), running it at 133 FSB would also cause the game to crash, but at 100, it was always fine. Does my Voodoo 4 not like a 133 fsb or something? I thought that with this XP, it would finally be alright at the default 133 Mhz fsb. But I guess not. It's REALLY beginning to frustrate me, too. I don't know what the problem could be... and I really don't want a new video card at the moment. This one does things fine for me. Any ideas?

You might be right about that Voodoo PCI card you got there.
Check over in the "Vid Card Fourms" for more info.

Glad you're up and running.

Good Luck

I do remember flashing the bios when I had problems and it helped. In Tribes 2, back off on some of the shadowing, texture, and detail settings until the game is working correctly. You can then go back and enhance the game one setting at a time until you find the balance between sweet graphics and stability.

it might be the pci and issues with the pci bus speeds but i not sure. I would get a Radeon 8500 anyway....and why does tribes crash...it requires like almost nothing.
