when I run the Heaven Benchmark it gives me an error and says it does not recognize my card unless I change the settings to DX9...is this normal? I ran the test with these settings and the GPU fan set to auto(factory setting) and the highest the temp got to was 75c. OS is Windows 10 with DX12

Did you update the Nvidia drivers to the latest?

no...not the latest but it is still pretty recent....this is the free version of Heaven Benchmark...at first thought I had to pay for it to run in at least DX 11. Never considered driver would cause it to not recognize the card. Will update tomorrow and let you know...

Is your GPU the one that is listen in your sig (GTX980)? If so, Update drivers, If it still doesnt work reinstall Heaven benchmark and try again.
Your GPU temps are fine, And Win10 shouldnt have problems with Heaven benchmark.

Heaven has sometimes issues with drivers or other things. I had the same on older and newer cards. It's old benchmark and if you want to test your hardware then better try something new like latest 3DMark.

Yes...GTX980...thanks

This is a plain GTX 980...should I even bother to overclock? If so, what should I expect?

Do you need more performance? If so, Overclock it.
You can expect a decent boost if you overclock it to the limits, But expect noise and heat in return.
