Ok, I've had a single xp in my k7d until I could get time to find my mp's and put them in. I found one and figured I'd go ahead and swap out the cpu's and just add the other mp later. The mp has been working fine for many months in a single cpu board but it won't boot in the k7d. I thought maybe I had killed the board so I put the xp back in just to rule out the cpu and sure enough, it booted fine. I put the mp back in and it's back to 4 reds on the D-Bracket thing. The xp is currently running fine in the k7d and the mp is running fine in an a7n8x. With mp's, do I have to have both cpu's in for it to boot? Any other things that could cause a problem like this? TIA

A single MP should run fine in that board. Have you tried clearing CMOS? Just in case?

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS.

I had a single XP in my K7D once, before my second one arrived, and it worked fine. I just popped in the 2nd CPU when it arrived.

Yeah, I've cleared CMOS a few times but to no avail. I'll go check on the bios now.

Ok, I updated the bios, still wouldn't work with the MP. Put the XP in and it booted fine so I put the MP back in the asus board it came out of and boom, wouldn't boot. I put the XP in and it booted right up. Looks like I've killed my first cpu  I guess I shouldn't really complain though, since I started overclocking, I've had 14 cpu's, 11 of which are still in use. Now I've got to find me 2 MP's :) I've got one in the works, the other might take a little time though.
