like the title says, this was my 2nd RMA board, plug in cpu, hard-drive and video only....turn it on and the little chipset below front usb connections started glowing orange. I scrambled to shut the system off and it started on fire. I shut the system off and blew out the flames...now board locks/won't boot into windows login. light on back stays constant red. I emailed MSI tech support, looks like if it didn't fry something else in my system...i'm getting an EPOX!

First board locks won't boot at all - turns on all fans though
2nd board - poof, fire.

can we say quality control problems!

Wow man that truly sucks. I wouldnt even bother rmaing the board. Thatll be ur what 3rd one? I used to think the MSI was good and they were when the first boards were out, thats why i was about to get one but now that i have been reading the newer boards are a bunch of crap to many problems. So i Decited to try a board no one (that i know off) has tried on this forum and went to the Epox 8KDA3J.

I have no problems at all. NONE, everything works fine.

Yea pics would be cool to see. Quality control is right MSI is still using crappy Capasiters on thier boards. I bet everything else is crappy *** cheapo lamm parts 2 cuss it sure sounds like it.

My mobo was $90 no problems works like a charm

I'll try to get a picture, but my digital camera dosen't do close-ups very well. I'm not getting another MSI unless they pull a rabbit out of their *** with amazing customer service. Talked to the online place I got it from, they'll rma it and allow me to swtich, but there goes another week or two. Plus they recommending getting Antec to rma the PSU too as a precaution. I should have stayed with P4

It isnt the psu its the motherboard. Youre not the only one who is having tons of problems on this board.

Just go check out MSI's forum youll see tons of horror stories on this board. Im sorry sincei was one of the people who mentioned this board to you, but i only went off what other people said was good, and only after you got youre board and beforei orderd minei found out the newer ones sucked. So it was true the Oringal ones were good boards.

Do you have MSN messenger ?

I hate to be just "another jerk" but show us photos.

Man I woulda loved to see an action photo of the board burning.

:(

They'll RMA it for sure though... hope it works out for you.

O_O Good lord!

Sorry about your problems. But uh[amd fanboy mode]this isn't AMD's fault at all, it's all MSI's crappy quality control's fault...perhaps ebay the one you get back and pick up an EPoX or Gigabyte.

From now on, I will strongly recommend against this board until these issues meet some sort of closure.

I didn't buy it soley because of recommendations, so no worries. I bought it because it had good reviews and the internet store had it at a good price. I know its the MB that is ****ed, but if it screwed my True Power 550w, I'll have to see if it can be RMA'd or tested atleast. I don't have another system where I can test it. But it did start the system after the fire was put out...so I think its ok. In the pic i'll circle the area...all it is, is a black little flat transistor that now has a white spot as if someone put a dab of whiteout on it.

ITS BLURRY, BUT LOOK AT THE WHITE DOT...THATS WHERE IT WAS. PIC 2 IS MORE ILLUSTRATED

wow that sucks. It kinda tho lookes like my Mosfets on my NF7-S, they are al ittle white. thats why i stuck some little heatsinks on them because they were burning hot.

On my Epox i felt all the parts o nthe board to see which were really hot and i already added some Sinks on them.

So now I need to decide which board to get. The Epox 8KDA3+, another K8N Platinum (not very likely) or other. I've always been impressed with ABIT, so I may look at reviews of their 754 board, but i'm leaning heavily towards the EPOX. I'm getting soo mad at motherboards failing. I had 2 ABIT IC7's (ABIT was cool as hell though), then I sold the 3rd with my 3.0C (went to 3.6). Got the 3200+ and now i've gone through 2 MSI K8N Neo's! What is up with ****ty MB. With my 2.4C at 3.3 it never gave me any troubles at all. Upgrade to 9800 pro and 3.0C and problems started. If I get another board and it fails, **** it...I'll just get a damn Dell Laptop and screw it.

I'm gonna try clearing CMOS and try the board again just to be sure its screwed, I don't want to wait for another board...I haven't had my system for atelast 4 weeks now!

EDIT:
Just tried the system again...oh ya, its alll screwy. Random re-boots, USB worked, then didn't. Keyboard worked then didn't, then worked...its all over the place. I was hoping a few extra volts and flames would allow a nice overclock, hehe...guess not. Fire + K8N Neo = bad.

I swore years ago i'd never buy a MSI board again. But im using a 8KN now. The abit KV8 pro sucked.

Im @ 2850mhz with a 3000+ newcastle. The board is stable @ 300fsb 1:1 It reminds and is as stable as the intel IC7 it replaced in my eye's.

I also have a 2nd one im building. For the mobile chip i have. This board worked out the box with the mobile, And the epox doesnt that's why i bought the MSI.

Seems they either work like a champ or they suck for people, no in between

But good luck to you.

Hey Candyman or Gautam, whats the difference between EPOX 8KDA3+ and 8KDA3J. The 3+ is $264cdn, the 3J is $188. They look the same with the 3+ having 6 Sata and the 3J having 2. I don't use any sata ports, so looks like i'll be going 8KDA3J

wow! didnt know amd was that capable...

Damn, Sorry to hear that. I've had no problems so far with my second board. I will still get the DFI board when it comes out though. MSI needs to get their act together.

Heh! Things sure change when AMD revises their cores. People tend to loose sight of how *old* the AXP core really is. I mean, hell its almost what 4-5 years old now?

Anyhoo, sorry about your loss. However its always an interesting story to tell to pplz. I just hope that mine never catches on fire....but somehow Im sure my time will come.

<But yes I agree, MSI can suck it. I only trust Abit and Gigabyte. Gigabyte *ESPECIALLY*>

I really wish we had a place like newegg here in Canada. The place I got it from is like oh well...we'll exchange it for the EPOX 8KDA3J when it comes in, in 5-10 business days, or you pay 15% restocking fee for refund. I told them the god damn thing caught on fire and I'm not paying another $45 shipping ($90 total for 2 boards!) plus loosing 15%...they don't give a ****, so i'll be speaking with another manager tomorrow. I explained to them, i still don't know if the MB took out anything else...arg.

So now I don't know what the hell i'm gonna do. Looks like no system for awhile now unless I want to pay the $80 extra and get the EPOX 8KDA3+ (which is in stock) over the 8KDA3J plus pay more god damn shipping!

I'll wait to hear what MSI says I guess...because NCIX.com does not give a ****.

The diff between the EP-8KDA3J and the EP-8KDA3+, is that the 8KDA3J doesnt have Firewire and it only has 2 SATA pluggs. The 8KDA3+ has firewire and 4 SATA pluggins.

Thats isnt worth the $60-$70 diff thats why i got the 8KDA3J

Got a EPOX 8KDA3+ on order...should be here in about 4-5 business days. I got it at a minor discount (7%), but they threw in free 1-2 day shipping so meh, about 60cdn more expensive...but no wait as they didn't have the 3J in stock. I swear if something goes wrong with this EPOX...i'll throw the whole system in the nearest lake!!!

This EPOX better be good, trouble free...I haven't had my system together forever now...pretty soon i'm gonna forget what FARCRY looks like.

hooah, this might sound like a stupid question, but did you have anything hooked up to the USB jumpers, and were the pins connected right?
