TLDR: high likelyhood of BSOD and un-bootable/un-fixable system

"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired
The operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
File: ACPI.sys
Error code: 0xc0000098"

"This issue has been observed on a small number of physical devices, but primarily on devices running in virtual environments, including:
Azure Virtual Machines
Azure Virtual Desktop
On-premises virtual machines hosted on Citrix or Hyper-V
Home users of Windows using Home or Pro editions are unlikely to face this issue, as virtual machines are mostly used in IT environments."

Who's on 23H2? Does MS let you stay there? lol
Considered how many problems 24H2 has given I wouldn't be surprised there's still quite a few still in 23H2, there's been many posts/videos saying not to upgrade at least for a few months

End user versions go unsupported this November, but Enterprise versions get another year so they have more time.

I still have one system on 23H2 as it just will not update to 24H2. Nothing seems to block it, but during the reboots it says something's gone wrong and reverts. If some solution isn't found by the time 23H2 goes EOL I'll have to consider a wipe. The problem is, it is a relatively old system so there's a TON of customised activated software on it which will be a major pain to transfer. If I'm going through that pain, I might as well get a new system to replace it, and that can be relegated to cruncher/spare status.

That's hilarious to me. I wonder what % of users are actually having trouble....

....if you made me guess, not enough for non-enterprise users not to...

Probably not, but (to me at least) it's not the quantity of problems, but just how bad they are, nearly every one from 24H2 I read up on have been either performance crushing issues or something that will force you to re-install the OS or pull a restore out of your *** if by any chance you let the update through, case in point.

And most people have no idea about it until it hits them because almost no one bothers to read M$/forum posts or even listen to the (mostly) short videos YTubers post about it, so it causes needless drama, right

While I've not worked in the area myself, Enterprise users seem much more conservative than consumers. If something works, you don't make big changes to it. Even routine patches might be tested before deployment. So a big change like going from 23H2 to 24H2 would need testing. If the enterprise is on the ball, they could start earlier than last minute before they absolutely have to move.

Why do people look online? Either for information or entertainment. I don't look at OS content because that is certainly NOT entertainment for me. For information, it is on "as needed" basis. I know the expectation that something will work is getting less common by the day.

It's a bit like my first air fryer. I did register it with the manufacturer when I got it for longer warranty so they know I have one and my details. It got recalled. Where did I hear about it? Not from them, but a random off-topic post on a Facebook group. I'm going to bet 99% of owners might still be using theirs unaware of this.

Back to 24H2, MS want everyone to use it. They're not going to say, don't update it now because something might go wrong, even if they have a list of known issues somewhere if people want to dig for it. I'm certainly not going to click a random YouTube video titled something like "You need to know this before you install 24H2!". They're pretty much all clickbait farms of low value information padded out for view time.

This 👍🏻

Problem with this is that most of the actually informative videos (and I posted a bunch of good ones that were complained about as clickbait) are also named something along those lines, so you can't really know until you zap through them - because they also want clicks. Even the big review websites use clickbait names as some here pointed out on occasion, and their info is usually spot on. And some don't post links, and the time you spend googling the info is about the same as writing a post complaining the vid is clickbait or that you would take by actually listening/watching the video

Honestly I also prefer reading the info, always been a heavy book reader, but most of the time nowadays I'm busy with something, so hearing a video about it is much more productive.

If I know what I'm looking for, it is relatively fast to search and skim text. Actually, websites also have a lot of filler too nowadays, presumably part of SEO. But it is a LOT faster to skim text than it is to skim a video. So I'd disagree, I can find written version of info faster than getting the same info from any video, unless that info is new from the video. But even that wont be the case for long as written sites will report on it. I refuse to reward clickbait videos. With websites at least you can adblock the hell out of them. You can almost skim a video now I think about it, as you can get a transcript of what's going on. But the way the site presents it means it only shows you the bit around where the playback is, so you can't look through the whole thing at once. Maybe there's 3rd party addons but I've not looked for that.

Right. I've worked in these environments already and I said "non-enterprise" because that demographic wasn't part of my point. But, you spelled it out. ;)
