Having some problems with a system I just built and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions...But first, the specs

Thunderbird 1.2/266
Iwill kk266 v1.2
256 MB Crucial PC133 cas2
Leadtek/Winfast GeForce 2 Pro 32 MB
IBM 30 GB UDMA/100
Asus 50x CD-ROM
Lastest 4in1 drivers
0426 Bios
DirectX 8.0a
Latest Detonator drivers
Windows 98 (not se)

These are only components installed right now. What appears to be happening is that the hardware 3D acceleration is not working. Any time an application that uses 3d acceleration (i.e. games and 3DMark)is started the computer completely freezes. Cannot even alt-ctrl-del out. System runs all SiSoft Sandra benchmarks perfectly and is completely stable otherwise. When I turn off hardware acceleration through the the Display-Advanced-Performance tab, games that would not run previously but do not require hardware acceleration run fine, albeit with poor graphics. I have already reformatted and reinstalled everything once, and changed pretty much every bios setting related to graphics. Does anyone have any ideas, or at least a place to post this where someone might know what's going on?

Thanks

It might be a problem with the video card itself (unlikely). Or, you could try downloading the drivers from Leadtek. Thats all I can think of right now.

I have a simalar setup, but I'm running W2K, Just loaded UT, works great. I'd check out the Memory settings for you RAM as well as your video card.

Thanks for the replys so far.
As for everyone who suggested directx 8 as the possible problem, when I reinstalled everything I first used 7 and then 8 with the same results. Memory settings, have already tried at the lowest possible. Guess I'll try a copy of SE...

As a side note, my KK266 supplies voltage to the core at about +.10 volts over what it says its giving it. (ie settings say 1.85 but monitors show 1.95, -+.01) Anyone else have this or am I just lucky?

Might also be the via 4 in 1's, sometimes they release those without vasoline and from what I understand they can be quite painful, I have the same board and a GeForce DDR and I have no problems with Direct X 8.0, but then that's just me. Also the 10.80 detonators offer pretty good performance for 9X systems, IMHO. Goodluck!!

I followed the instuctions on the KK266 faq on which oder to install the drivers, which amounted to 4in1, usb stuff, windows updates, video drivers. Was your order that finally worked any different?
