I boot my Win2k and get a BSOD just before the GUI comes up that says:

Hex addresses
KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Hex addresses

blah bla (some fault) in ntoskrnl.exe

Does this mean my RAM is dead cos this is a very nice stick. PC100 that does 150 easy. Overclocked twice for about 15mins total 6months ago. I used the PC last nite no problem but when I turned it on this evening, I got the above BSOD. What can I do???

Could be memory related. Have you made any changes? Can you try different memory or maybe another operating system? Also try booting to safe mode and see if that works.

I have swopped he RAM - no change.
Safe mode - no change
Removed all cards except AGP - no change.

I can't try another OS cos the hard drive belongs to my brothers (2 of them) and if I format, all their school work for matric portfolios is gone. If I could I would format, but my 10Gb hdd has given up and tries to sound like my modem when it comes on at all. Any other ideas???

Without even safe mode you are kind of limited on what you can do. When exactly does the stop error appear? Is it right after the windows 200 boot screen or does it come up while that screen is there? If you have the windows installation cd you could run that and use the repair windows option. The other thing you could do is possibly restore the ntoskrnl file but I'd have to research how to do that with the installation cd. You could copy that from another computer using 2000.

I have this same problem but in random occurences. It seems to happen within 5 minutes of me booting up. It can happen either right away when running anything(3d aps, etc). Oh, look right this second I got a page fault in nonpaged area. What does this mean? and what does Kmode Exception Not Handled mean. are these bsods normally ram related? Someone please held, i'm really starting to get ****ed.

Here is a new one. Unexpected Kmode Trap

What does this one mean? by the way I reformatted my hard drive and am running on a fresh install of win2k. I installed it this way

Win2k+all updates, via 4 in 1, all other hardware, vid card drivers. I've downloaded cool bits for overclocking and am running it at 220/475.

My chipset settings are

Enabled: AGP Aliasing
Agp Always Compensate
Super Bypass mode

Disabled: System Bios Cacheable
Video Ram Cacheable
Memory Hole at 14m-16m
AGP Fast Write

Other: Cas = 2.5 (same as DDR)
Super Bypass = 0
SDram Timing = Auto

If anyone knows if these can hurt 3dmark2001se scores considerably, please tell me what to change it to etc. Also I need info on that BSOD, it only happens when running 3d aps. Thanks a lot everybody
