Has anyone else had trouble with dial-up connections with this mb? Have tried many different modems but they never seem to work until after the computer has been running for an hour or two. Also why won't this mb recognize the cd-rom drive whenever windoze is reloaded?

Just a few suggestions here:

1) Which pci slot do you have the modem in?
2) pci slot 5 (counting down from the agp slot) is a shared irq slot ... so try not to use that particular slot
3) I have heard of several people have problems with pci slot 1 ...
4) my usr modem will not run in slot 6
so my suggestion is ... try pci slots 2, 3, or 4

hope this helps

no haven't had any probs with my modem ( except the USB one...but that was because i had to install the USB fix )...although i have had freezing problems.

id like to know what kind of freezing probs your having,. do you mean on the net or when in any application?

It only freezes when I try to go online after I first start it up. It will either connect or freeze. After an hour or so it runs great. I didn't use pci slot 1 because it shares with the AGP graphics card slot, placed sound card in slot 2, & modem is in slot 3.

2 simple questions:
What brand is your modem?
And what OS are you running?

The modem I'm using now is a conexant model A56FW-pci, running win ME, windows 98se was a disaster. It runs much faster with me, I don't want to over clock until everything is running normal.

its win me..there is a freaky bug in win me where it will only let you online for awhile then dissconnect...and stay disconnected till you restart you pc. You should try to d/l the bug fixes for Win ME from MS.
Also I dont know why you had probs with win 98 se, I am using it and its better than the plain old win 98...faster..cant get ME to install on this thing...says it doesnt like something on the board. So anyway just do like I said and d/l the bug fixes for ME from MS..they should have fixed it by now.

Well I have my modem in the ISA slot and it freezes when online I have to reboot and everything is fine. I have WIn ME and this is most weird. If someone comes up with a concrete solution please clue me in as its annoying to have to reboot.

I have a Motorola SM56 ISA card modem that will freeze on me every now and then but I am led to believe it's a problem with my software and not with the motherboard or modem itself....

I have had this problem for a long time too.. I just recently got rid of my KT7A because I could not stand the plethora of problems it gave me. This being only one of many. I had an external modem that would lock up the PC up all the time. Sometimes during dial-up, sometimes after a few mins of connections, sometimes after a few hours. Sometimes windows ME wouldn't even see my modem at all.

I ended up going into the BIOS and modify the COM port settings to use a different I/O-IRQ scheme. Seemed to help a lot with these problems. But I guess this would only help those using external modems.

you dont have aol do you? i have been getting freezes and booted offline alot lately!
i think meybe their up to somthing like aol 7.0.it happend alot before 6.0 came out.otherwise i would try slot 4,mine works well there.i also disabled com1 and 2 to free up irq,s.
not sure why the boot screen doesn't show cd roms, meybe they don't use them in japan?
anyway when i got my second drive and installed raid 0 it fixed that problem.
