I hate KVM switches but I can't live without them.

The lab I work in has ton's of PC's in racks all connected to KVM Switches, which are in turn connected to monitors, keyboards and meece.

The knucklehead who ordered the cables didn't get triple shielded cables. As a result the monitors always look kind of wormy and fuzzy. Occasionally a system will stop “seeing” the mouse or won’t respond to keyboard entries.

GAAAAKK!!!

I’ve got one triple shielded cable assembly and I’m going to put it on the PC I use most.

I use a 4 port powered KVM and a 2 port unpowered daily. The 4 port is real nice except it does tend to drop a mouse every now and then. They 2 port is REALLY nice, is nice and small (Doesn't drop mouse connections) and I can stick it away somewhere seeing as all I have to do is double tap control to change machines.

I've been using a Belkin OmniCube 4 port KVM and I absolutely love it. It's never dropped a mouse or caused any interference from one channel to another and I just use the regular cables that come with my computer.

Not only that, but the KVM is hooked to my wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse so I can move it if need be without losing connectivity with any of my machines.

Only thing though is that seems to be a bit slower for gaming, but hey, i'll take the performance hit for this kind of ease-of-use.

I've been looking at getting the 2 Port Belkin KVM, I take it you guys like them? i do PC work on the side alot(plus I'm trying to et another system to play with Linux on(It's not really working too good, the old ball and chain wotn be having it...:() Anyway, is it worth the investment, if $20-$30 can be considered an investment.

Make sure you get triple shielded cables.. they make all the difference with KVM's

Yes, I highly recommend the Belkins. Adn as far as computer work and Linux and all that stuff, i'll give ya a rundown of what I use since you sound like you want the kind of setup I have.

Belkin OmniCube 4-Port
Logitech Wireless Keyboard & Mouse (man are these nice)

Comp. 1 - Game Machine: AMD Athlon 1Ghz w/Win98SE
Comp. 2 - Backup Box: PIII 450Mhz w/WinXP Pro
Comp. 3 - Server: Dual PIII 550Mhz w/Win2000 Server
Comp. 4 - Linux box: AMD K6/3 400Mhz w/Redhat Linux

One thing about Linux is you don't need a fast or even particularly good computer to play around with it. Invest in a cheap, crappy $100 system and use that. I'm learning that Linux is very powerful and am considering of moving my server/backup to Linux.

I bought the 4 port SE line. Real nice... Only wish I had saved 20$ and gotten the 2 port as I've only got 2 comps. No visual issues since I got a pair of the Belkin max resolution cables. (good to the same resolution as my switch, lifetime warranty) Never have any mouse or keyboard issues... but for whatever reason, the power light blinks on and off steadily whenever Im using the channel 2 machine (still works fine... unit gets power from keyboard ports btw).

I ust bought the 2 port belkin with all cables included for 40 bux at newegg........the thing is a priceless.
