Walter:-( (May 20, 2001 02:40 p.m.):
Has anybody a link to a test between the Kyro2 32MB and the Kyro2 64MB? Is there a big differ between them?
Also
I have 2 set's of computer speakers. Can I use the 5.1 sound system with these speakers, or should I get the SB Live 1024 instead?
Thanks
The difference between the two Kyros will be negligible. People will claim (as they have for the past year or so) that 64 MBs might work better with "future games". So, maybe in 2004 that extra 32 MBs will do something, but for now it's not really that useful. Unreal Tournament DOES run better in higher (1280*1024+) resolutions with 64 MBs of memory (at least on the Radeon). This is most likely due to the larger frame buffer required. Basically if the Kyro2 64 MB is only a few bucks more, then go ahead and get it. If it's a LOT more, then I wouldn't bother (because it uses only SDR, the 64 MB Kyro should be pretty cheap)...
Regarding the Sound card question, you didn't include enough information about your system in order for me to really give you an answer. The Sound Blaster Live! 1024 CAN support 5.1 out, but only using the digital DIN connector (it doesn't have 3 analog outs). Basically for games 4.1 speakers are generally fine. The only reason to really go 5.1 is for DVDs w/Dolby 5.1 sound, IMO.
