It seems every time I try to lap a block it "skips" across the sandpaper everyonce in a while. I'm doing wet sanding and only using the weight of the block as pressure. Any ideas as to why it's doing this? It really freaks me out.

Try some low scent kerosine or dishwashing soap, just a couple drops. It'll assist in the block gliding more evenly and smoothly acrosss the sandpaper.

Yeah, mix in a couple of drops of dish soap into the water. That will give the block some lubrication and keep it from skipping. I never have had a problem with it.
