Say I want to replace fans in the bottom front of my Lian Li case or even for that matter I want to put an intake fan on the side of my case blowing down on the CPU.

I decide I want some Sunon 80mm 36cfm fans that have 3 Pin connectors. I would like to keep speed monitoring, but I don't want to drive them off the motherboard because I already have 3 fans running off of it. Is it possible to remove the two wires from the 3 pin connector for + and - and wire them into a regular 4pin connector? If so which wires should I join these with so I don't smoke the fan? Is 12V too much or can I go 5V and which color was the 5V lead again?

Your opinion's greatly appreciated.

Shawn

it is posable ive done it before, when testing a fan to see if it worked, the color codes are the same red +12, black -12, yellow +5.
the voltage should be the same weather its from the mobo or a molex connector this is why they can make 3 to 4 pin adapters.

As long as you match the colors you should be fine.

Great, thanks for the tip. So the + should go to the Yellow connector and the - should still go to the black wire?

Thanks again,
