Hello everyone, i am fairly new to linux and was curious if anyone knew of a graphical ftp client that supports the download of multiple threads simultaniously? Smartftp does this in windows, but so far i have been unable to find an equivalent in linux. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the reply MRD, but nowhere in the list did i see a graphical ftp client that advertised support for multiple simultaneous thread downloads?

Well, searching for ftp returns 57 hits, quite a few of which were graphical. Whether they support multiple threads isn't specified, so I can't really say for sure if they do. You probably have to either try them out or read up on them a bit to see if they support multiple threads. I would think some of them would support that.

Sorry I don't have more experience with it personally. I dislike gui apps for that kind of thing and stick with command line interface programs.

EDIT: I'm not sure how familiar you are with linux. Anything that says graphical, gui, gtk, gnome, kde, wx, or qt will be graphical.

I can't personally say that I have much experience with this, because I don't, however, I did find you a good link. It lists a bunch of different FTP clients for Linux. There are links and everything...just click on "More" next to the choice, and it will bring up more informationa about it. http://www.linux.org/apps/all/Networking/FTP.html

wow, thank you so much MRD! I cant tell you how long i have been looking for a graphical client that supports multiple threads!

Those were just the first couple I looked at from the gentoo list that were graphical. It seems that it's a reasonably common feature, so if you don't like those two, just try some of the others on the list.

Even if you don't use gentoo, the gentoo package repository is a great resource for figuring out what programs are out there.

Thanks again MRD, i have been sticking to debian based distros for the last few years..as of now i have sarge running and i'm installing ububtu on my fileserver as i write this..hopefully all goes well and thanks again for the help!
