This computer is less than 4 months old but this problem may have been here since the beginning, I am unsure.

Sometimes when I reboot the system it will lock up and completely freeze on the spash screen with the "scrolling" colored bar. However, If I leave the computer off for a minute or so, and then turn it on, I dont believe it has ever locked up.

The only two things I can think of are heat and maybe the hard drive not completely shutting down before the computer gets turned back on.

However, I have never had a lockup while I was actually in windows so I dont think it could be heat.

Any thoughts?

Oh... one more thing...
I dont know if its related but a couple of times when I place a CD in my computer, it will just shut off. The power supply is a brand new Antec 430W.

Thanks for any help =)

Wait! You just sparked an idea...

I have 3 CD-Rom's (well, cd burner, dvd-rom, dvd-burner). Two of these are on thier own ide cable, the other shares with the hard drive as a slave... could this be causing the HD to go too slow to boot ocasionally?

Somewhere I heard that if two devices are on one IDE cable, they both go the speed of the slower one.

If not, Ill try unhooking each cd-rom later tonight and find out which caused the problem...

Thanks ;)
