OK, that was hokey. Linux n00b:D

Anyway - here's my question. In a typical move, I went and got rehhat 9, and got it going only to find that my quick and dirty plan of loading wine and getting my old client from the previous windoze install going was foiled because the glib on rh9 is 2.3 - most wine is supporting 2.2 and below.

SO

I got the native linux folding client, and got started.

BUT

Can I copy my old wu from the prev Win install so I can finish it under the native Linux client?

Thanks

i think you probably should be able to. I'm not to familiar with linux, but you should be able to i think because if although the disk formats may be different, folding at home runs the same way.

I have been curious as to how the linux client is doing these days. Post some frame/WU times when you get things sorted out. If and when you get wine running, I'd like to see a comparrison between those times and straight linux times too.

Let us know how it goes.

Not sure how valid the comparison is - I've noticed that there seem to be variations within the same project depending on run clone and gen. Anyway, I was mostly getting 5xx series stuff on Linux and 3xx on Win/wine, but I finally tagged a few 5xx wu's for comparison. This is basically what I see:

3.25 Linux "B" client (8:56/fr)

[01:51:18] Project: 544 (Run 9, Clone 282, Gen 1)
[01:51:18]
[01:51:18] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[01:51:18] Entering M.D.
[01:51:35] Protein: p544_BBA5_ext
[01:51:35]
[01:51:35] Writing local files
[01:51:36] Extra 3DNow boost OK.
[01:51:40] Writing local files
[01:51:40] Completed 0 out of 500000 steps (0%)
[02:00:36] Writing local files
[02:00:36] Completed 5000 out of 500000 steps (1%)

3.24 Win client and wine (9:16/fr):

[20:26:55] Project: 544 (Run 14, Clone 120, Gen 7)
[20:26:55]
[20:26:55] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[20:26:55] Entering M.D.
[20:27:11] Protein: p544_BBA5_ext
[20:27:11]
[20:27:11] Writing local files
[20:27:11] Extra 3DNow boost OK.
[20:27:15] Writing local files
[20:27:15] Completed 0 out of 500000 steps (0)
[20:36:31] Writing local files
[20:36:31] Completed 5000 out of 500000 steps (1)

As I said - I don't think this means much necessarily, but it is interesting how close they are. I wonder if you could d/l a wu and start it in Win then Linux, and see on the *exact* same work what happens. Only real way to know.

Fold on!

(PS: w00t! top 20 baby! :D - couldn't resist)
