pixel shader 3.0 will become usefull soon enough. not everyone has money to upgrade every 6 months sir. the r420 is gonna be obsolete before the nv40

you'll see the first PS3.0 games in the year 2006....
at least that's what my cristal ball says. :p

the big PS3.0 games won't come before 2007....we'll see much more big name games with full PS2.0 features till 2007.
even Doom3 will be more of a DX8.0 game then a true DX9.0

we'll have Longhorn way before any real PS3.0 games. ;)

I thought Nvidia learned their lesson by now. FOLLOW THE DAMN SPECS MICROSOFT GIVES YOU!

Nvidia must be pretty thick headed. I totally agree with Amino. Instead of focusing on this and that, they need to build a card that runs the freakin games.

I guess some pplz never learn:rolleyes:....I wonder if it will use CineFX :D

Rumors rumors rumors...

There are rumors going around that the nv40 will be over 125W. That's 25% more heat then the Prescott...

That cooling solution would have to take up something like 4 slots...

thats a pretty bold statment seeing as how NEITHER company has made an official release yet. there you go pulling facts out of your *** again. and you are one to talk about PS 3.0, when all we ever hear from you is how eyecandy doesnt matter, and ps 2.0 doesnt make a difference and on, and on, and on defending your 4200.

:p

Very true, it seems that OC550 has a little ATi in em afterall. One of these days he will convert. Its only a question of when.

"the big PS3.0 games won't come before 2007"

might be a bit of a problem for nvidia then, they have gotten 3 years ahead of themselves just like ati did with dx9 on their radeon 9500 and 9700. fully dx9 games are soon to come out, but hl2 and doom3 still use alot of dx8

unless the nv40 is at least 50% faster than an r420, almost no one is gonna go the trouble then. too loud, hot and takes too much space LOL

"and you are one to talk about PS 3.0, when all we ever hear from you is how eyecandy doesnt matter"

it matters to some people, that much I can tell you ;)

The specs(culation) on the NV40 sound nice but right now i am still smarting from the NV30 baloney. NV needs to prove it to me first, then they can have my money.:D

1] doom3 is openGL

2] nvidia bragged on how the 5800u wold ahve 130million transitors, and look what all that did for the card...not at all worth the waste of 400 bucks on release AND it was a vacum....

now they brag a bout transitors..once again.

how about nvidia stick to standards this time, follow the PROPER way to run DX games instead of wasting developers money and time making them recode games with special 'code paths' so nvidias cards get half decent frame rates with DX shaders...then only then will they have a half decent card for once.

*sings* B-O-L-O-G-N-A

Come on...dont ya know the Oscar Meyer song?! :p

Ha ha ahhahahahahah!:D Yeah, but if the NV marketing dept. got ahold of the song they would of spelled it B-A-L-O-N-E-Y.

How about we just wait another 2 months and then everyone can argue over how brillaint nvidia is or idiotic they are?

and that was my original point to my reply....
with so many unansered questions, just how can we say that the NV40 will be good or bad?

let's all just wait and see.

If this is true the R420 might be the newest version of the R8500 all over again! Yeah, I know its from the Inquirer but sometimes they are right. This would be a monster card!!! I might just go back to NV if this proves true! I have been a ATI fanboy since the 9700 Pro. But my money allways goes to the victor!:attn: It won't be to long now before we find out for sure!

NV 40 16 pipes...

Scope it and whine!!:D

Yup!

Have you heard the specs of NV40? They are using Samsung GDDR3 1.20GHz memory and the Core frequency is clocked at 550MHz on the highend model.

nVidia NV40
550MHz 16-pipeline engine :O
1200MHz 256-bit GDDR3 256MB memory
Over 200 Million Transistors

ATI R420
500MHz revised 2nd gen 8-pipeline engine :)
1000MHz GDDR2 256MB memory
175 Million Transistors

From these specs, ATI better get there act together or its gonna be a rape from the competition :( I love my ATI company but 16-pipeline engine will smoke everything.

EDIT: AS LONG AS THE VPU REALLY IS 16X1 and not 8X2, THEN IT LOOKS LIKE I KNOW WHICH CARD I'M GETTING LOL 8x2 is just marketing craps. who wants additional multi textured units when they can have real pipelines :)

OC-Master

I have also heard that ATI will beat NV to the highend release. But, this time around I'm gonna wait until I see a true comparison of the 2 NV & ATI top dawgs before I buy. Its gonna be hard but 16 pipes is just awesome (16x1)...if its like what OC-master says 8x2 then it will be another NV dud.

Ok pplz. Hold on a sec.

You do know that the R420's core is just a re-vamped 8 piped 96XT core right??

Now how far have pplz gotten just a regular 96 to. I personally have seen over 600mgz plenty of times.

Not to mention that this is a revised version! Remember how many mgz the 98 got over the 97.

When the R420 comes out, I wont be suprised to see 600mgz on the core.

Plus the NV40 has 25% more transisters. Ie atleast 25% hotter running that the R420. Good luck trying to get a good OC on that T-bird :p

Not in the least. Yes, its on the same process, and will probably also use Low-k designs, but it is not in any way an "8 piped 9600XT". You cannont simply double the number of pipes and call it that, heh. Not to mention, it does support PS 3.0 as well if I'm not mistaken, again, something you cant simply add and call it that. Those two things alone require a redesign of the core almost from the ground up.

When you simply try to add in the new stuff without redesigning the core, you get something along the lines of the NV30. A card that of course is still good at the old stuff, but the new stuff is extremely inefficient because the core was not designed around (and thus not designed to natively handle) the new stuff.

ha, thats extremely funny coming from you. remember this thread you started? NV30 is King! Of Graphics Cards. Set To Have 125M Transistors, Twice Speed GF4!

LOL. i wouldnt start out this time like you did last time.

oh yeah, and oc550, i know it will matter to some people, but it wont matter to you.
