i wnated to get a new graphics card and i heard that the 6800 series are the fastest agp cards that i can afford. But what should i get? and ultra or a gt? What make should i go for?
Thanks

if you want to save $100 and get pretty much an Ultra card buy a 6800GT OC from BFGTech, oc it to Ultra speeds, and whamo you got yourself an ultra.

I am not so up to date on Video Cards but here is my take on things:

The 6800 is the base card.

The 6800GT has more pipelines I beleive, and is clocked a little faster. 6800GT > 6800,

The 6800Ultra is similar to the GT but the core and the memory run at higher clock frequencies. Thus 6800Ultra > 6800GT.

However, as mentioned, the 6800U and GT are similar except for clockspeeds. So the most cost effective option is to purchase a 6800GT and overclock the card. The GT cards often reach 6800Ultra speeds.

EDIT:
This may also be of use:

And apparently 6800s can be unlocked to give all their pipelines:

Unless you have money to burn i wouldn't get the Ultra. I would stick with the GT. ATM i am using the 6800nu and was able to disable the locked pipes safely and still get a good OC. It can score just as good as alot of GT's in aquamark/3dmark03.

Getting a GT is your best bet. Sure, some people have had luck unlocking their 6800nu's, but many have failed. Just get a 6800GT with a good cooling solution and you shouldn't have any problems with reaching near Ultra speeds!

what brand of card should i get? and what cooler? u.k only links plz.
Thanks very much

the ultras have 2 molex connectors and more caps. they can handle more power and thus, have much more ocing capability then the gt's. if money is no option, i suggest getting an ultra from BFG or eVGA. if money is an option then get a gt or even a regular 6800 from either one of these two companies.

as far as cooling goes, stay away from the nv silencer 5. they are not all that they are crakced up to be. zalman has come out with the vf700-cu cooler that looks to be producing some pretty good results. im actually gonna pick this up for my ultra very soon. also another note is that the ultras have way better stock cooling then the gt's.

whatever you decide to do, i wish you luck. hope this helped. :)

if you're a serious overclocker get the ultra, if not the gt. the ultras just overclock so much better...

they're also cheap right now because of pci-e. ultras for sale at $350-$400 after rebates new, and about $375 used are not uncommon.

so i should get an agp one? how does the gt compare to the x800 pro?

i cant find a bfg 6800 gt anywhere in the u.k. Does anyone have any sites?

ive looked everywhere and i cant find anyone that sells the BFG. What other make should i get? evga - i cannot get hold of either.
